Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday launched two major Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) housing schemes — Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar — being developed across 10,680 acres at an estimated cost of ₹12,000 crore.
The projects are part of the state’s planned expansion of Lucknow and its surrounding areas. At the launch event, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stones for five multi-storey housing projects worth ₹2,166 crore.
Two Townships to Add New Residential Areas
The two schemes are being developed in different parts of Lucknow:
- Varun Vihar: More than 6,500 acres near the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, with planned connectivity towards the Purvanchal Expressway.
- Naimish Nagar: Around 4,100 acres on the Lucknow-Sitapur side, with the project also linked to the wider development around Naimisharanya.

According to details shared at the event, the two schemes are planned to provide residential facilities for around 10 lakh people. The first phase has also opened registration for 4,520 residential plots.
The projects are intended to combine housing with supporting infrastructure as Lucknow expands towards its peripheral areas.
Five Housing Projects Worth ₹2,166 Crore
Alongside the two large township schemes, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stones for five proposed multi-storey residential projects:
- Lake View
- Park View
- Aishbagh Square
- Aditi Apartment under Anant Nagar Yojana
- Bageshwari Apartment in Sharda Nagar Extension
The projects together have an estimated cost of ₹2,166 crore and will add further apartment-based housing to Lucknow’s residential supply.
Focus on Planned Urban Development
Speaking at the event, Adityanath said the expansion of cities needed to be accompanied by planned infrastructure and basic civic amenities.
He pointed to earlier patterns of development where residential colonies grew without adequate arrangements for roads, electricity, water supply and drainage, saying such unplanned expansion had created problems for residents.
The Chief Minister said the government’s approach was now focused on planned housing and infrastructure as Lucknow’s population and economic activity expand.
The schemes are designed to accommodate different housing requirements, including residential plots, group housing, affordable housing and homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Lucknow to Anchor State Capital Region Expansion
Adityanath also outlined a broader regional development plan covering Lucknow, Unnao, Hardoi, Barabanki, Sitapur and Rae Bareli under the proposed State Capital Region (SCR) framework.
According to the Chief Minister, the regional approach is intended to coordinate development in areas such as:
- Public mobility and road connectivity
- Urban infrastructure
- Education and healthcare
- Tourism
- Industrial and economic activity
The Varun Vihar and Naimish Nagar projects are therefore being positioned within a wider expansion of Lucknow beyond its existing urban limits.
Farmers’ Compensation Paid Directly
The Chief Minister also highlighted the compensation paid to farmers whose land was acquired for the projects.
He cited several beneficiaries who received compensation ranging from approximately ₹1.96 crore to ₹3.13 crore, and said payments had been transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
Adityanath said the government intended to ensure that land acquisition and development took place without middlemen and advised beneficiaries to consider productive investments for the compensation they received.
The launch marks a major expansion of LDA’s planned residential development towards Lucknow’s western and northern corridors.
