Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has officially commenced its Fire Safety Week from April 14 to April 20, marking a strong statewide push toward fire prevention and public awareness. The initiative was launched on the occasion of National Fire Service Day, with senior officials highlighting the importance of fire safety and emergency preparedness across the state.
The campaign aims to reduce fire-related incidents and strengthen community awareness through training, drills, and outreach programs.
Flag Pin Ceremony Marks Formal Inauguration
The Fire Safety Week was formally inaugurated in a symbolic ceremony where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna were honored with a fire service flag pin.
The pinning ceremony was conducted by Director General of Fire and Emergency Services Sujit Kumar Pandey, who visited the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow to mark the beginning of the campaign. A similar honor was extended to the DGP, recognizing their support and commitment toward strengthening emergency services in the state.
Tribute to Fire Service Martyrs
As part of the commemorative observance, DG Sujit Kumar Pandey paid floral tribute at the memorial located at the Hazratganj Fire Station in Lucknow. The homage was dedicated to fire service personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. National Fire Service Day is observed in memory of the 1944 Bombay Victoria Dock explosion, where 66 firefighters sacrificed their lives while responding to a massive blaze.
Focus Theme: Safe Schools and Safe Hospitals
This year’s Fire Safety Week carries a focused mission under the theme:
“Safe Schools, Safe Hospitals, and a Fire-Aware Society.”
Throughout the week, fire stations across Uttar Pradesh will conduct:
- Mock fire drills in schools and hospitals
- Emergency response training sessions
- Public awareness campaigns in crowded and sensitive areas
- Safety demonstrations for citizens
The goal is to ensure quick response readiness and minimize damage during fire emergencies.
Statewide Awareness Drive Until April 20
The week-long campaign will continue until April 20, with coordinated activities across all districts. Authorities aim to encourage citizens to adopt fire-safe practices at home, workplaces, and public spaces.
Officials emphasized that prevention and awareness are key to reducing fire hazards and saving lives, especially in densely populated urban and rural regions. Uttar Pradesh’s Fire Safety Week serves as both a tribute to fallen heroes and a proactive step toward building a safer society. With large-scale awareness programs and emergency preparedness drills, the initiative reinforces the state’s commitment to disaster management and public safety.
