Uttar Pradesh on High Alert for Heatwave and Low Rainfall Risk: CM Yogi Orders Full Preparedness Across Departments 

State administration directed to strengthen drinking water supply, irrigation systems, health preparedness, and disaster response measures amid forecast of intense heatwave and below-normal rainfall across Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has placed the entire Uttar Pradesh administration on high alert in view of severe heatwave conditions and the possibility of below-normal rainfall this year. He emphasized that there should be zero negligence in drinking water supply, irrigation, and relief management systems.

A high-level review meeting was held with ministers and senior officials from departments including agriculture, irrigation, animal husbandry, social welfare, and horticulture.

Special Monitoring in 18 Drought-Prone Districts

The Chief Minister directed special surveillance in 18 districts previously affected by drought conditions.

Key instructions include:

  • Continuous monitoring from June 15 to July 30
  • Real-time situation assessment based on defined standards
  • Deployment of NDRF support if required
  • Activation of control rooms at state and district levels

He also ordered that updates must be shared with the Chief Minister’s Office, Chief Secretary, and DGP.

Water Conservation and Irrigation Infrastructure Strengthening

CM Yogi stressed the importance of water conservation and instructed that all canals, ponds, and water bodies must undergo de-silting by May 30.

Additional directives include:

  • Ensuring piped water supply across all regions
  • Keeping tanker-based emergency water systems ready
  • Providing drinking water for wildlife in sanctuaries
  • Ensuring water, fodder, and medical care in cow shelters

He also emphasized scientific and efficient use of water resources to prevent wastage.

Farmers’ Welfare and Irrigation Priorities

The Chief Minister gave top priority to farmers’ needs and directed:

  • All tube wells must remain operational
  • Timely repair and maintenance of irrigation systems
  • Uninterrupted electricity supply for irrigation
  • Promotion of subsidized seed distribution and agricultural advisory services

He also instructed effective implementation of crop insurance schemes and timely compensation for farmers.

Food Security and Market Regulation Measures

To ensure food security, the government has directed:

  • Adequate food grain stock in the Public Distribution System (PDS)
  • Timely distribution to eligible beneficiaries
  • Additional grain allocation from the central government if required
  • Strict action against hoarding and black marketing

Health Preparedness Against Heat-Related Illnesses

The Chief Minister emphasized preparedness against heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related diseases.

Instructions include:

  • Strengthening hospital facilities
  • Running public awareness campaigns
  • Ensuring availability of medicines and emergency care

Disaster Management System Strengthened

To improve emergency response, the state will utilize:

  • Over 19,000 trained disaster response volunteers
  • Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel
  • Early weather warning systems for timely alerts

These measures aim to ensure rapid and coordinated response during any disaster situation.

Focus on Agriculture Planning for Kharif Season 2026–27

CM Yogi reviewed preparations for the upcoming agricultural season and directed:

  • Proper canal system management
  • Ensuring water reaches tail-end areas
  • Strict monitoring of irrigation distribution
  • Transparency in fertilizer supply through farmer registry system

He also promoted natural farming to reduce costs and improve soil health.

Water Distribution Targets and Progress Report

The government has set irrigation targets under the Kharif cycle:

  • Water to reach 10,487 out of 11,375 canal tail ends
  • Over 17,961 of 24,153 ponds filled, achieving 70% progress
  • Improved water storage levels compared to last year

Officials reported better water availability in reservoirs and improved irrigation efficiency.

Strong Push for Climate-Ready Governance

With a focus on water management, farmer protection, disaster preparedness, and health safety, the Uttar Pradesh government is building a climate-resilient governance system to handle extreme weather challenges and ensure public welfare across the state.
