Lucknow: Ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the state government has released ₹1,242.50 crore under the Vidhan Mandal Kshetra Vikas Nidhi for the current financial year. The release is expected to accelerate development works across Assembly and Legislative Council constituencies in the state.
The allocation will enable legislators to undertake development projects addressing local infrastructure and public needs in their respective areas.
₹1,242.50 Crore Released for Constituency Development
The total amount has been allocated for members of both the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.
At present, the state Assembly has 398 members, with five seats vacant. At ₹2.50 crore per member, a total of ₹995 crore has been earmarked for Assembly members.
Similarly, the Legislative Council has 99 members, with one seat vacant. At ₹2.50 crore per member, ₹247.50 crore has been allocated for Council members.
The combined allocation comes to ₹1,242.50 crore.
Keshav Prasad Maurya Approves Release of Funds
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya approved the release of the constituency development funds.
Maurya said the funds would help speed up development works related to local infrastructure and public facilities.
The allocation can support works related to:
- Roads and local connectivity
- Drainage and sewer-related infrastructure
- Drinking water facilities
- Street and public lighting
- Community facilities
- Public-use infrastructure
- Other locally required development works
Funds to Support Development Ahead of 2027 Elections
With the 2027 Assembly elections approaching, the release of the funds is expected to provide legislators with greater financial support to undertake development projects in their constituencies.
The government has emphasised that the funds should be directed towards projects addressing genuine local requirements and improving public facilities.
Government Directs Officials to Ensure Transparency and Quality
The state government has directed concerned officials to ensure that the released funds are utilised properly.
The key instructions include:
- Complete development works within the prescribed timelines.
- Maintain transparency in utilisation of funds.
- Ensure high-quality execution of projects.
- Prioritise works based on local requirements.
- Monitor implementation to ensure effective utilisation of the allocation.
The government said proper implementation of the funds would help accelerate development activities at the constituency level.
