Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on September 22 distributed appointment letters to 3,567 candidates selected for posts in the state’s secondary education system through the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC).
The appointments cover 319 principals, 258 headmasters, 2,372 trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and 618 lecturers (PGTs) in non-government-aided secondary schools. The appointment programme was held at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow.
Yogi Targets ‘Saifai Syndicate’
Speaking at the event, Yogi Adityanath criticised previous recruitment practices in Uttar Pradesh and referred to what he called the “Saifai Syndicate”, a reference to the Samajwadi Party and its political leadership.
The Chief Minister said, “We have told the ‘Saifai Syndicate’ that we will keep giving appointment letters; let them keep counting.” He also made a reference to Shivpal Yadav while discussing the number of appointments.
Yogi also said that officers with experience in the Uttar Pradesh Police had been given responsibility for improving the functioning of recruitment commissions and boards. Former DGP Prashant Kumar is the chairman of the UPESSC.
CM Cites 9.5 Lakh Appointments
Adityanath said that 5,297 appointment letters had been distributed during the preceding week and that more than 9.5 lakh youths had received appointments in the government sector over the previous nine years, according to the state government release.
He also said the government has set a target of connecting another one lakh youths with government jobs over the next six months.
The figures are part of the government’s Mission Rozgar programme. The UP government’s official release separately records appointment-letter distribution to 818 candidates on September 19 and 912 candidates on September 20.
Yogi Alleges ₹8 Lakh Bribe Demand in Earlier Recruitment
During the event, the Chief Minister referred to the case of a newly appointed candidate who, according to Yogi, had applied for the same post during 2015-16.
Yogi alleged that the candidate had been asked to pay ₹8 lakh for the job. He said the candidate sold his land to arrange the money, but another person allegedly offered more money and the candidate did not receive the appointment at that time. Yogi said the recruitment process was subsequently cancelled and the candidate has now been appointed.
Warning Against Bribery After Appointments
Yogi also warned that newly appointed teachers should not face demands for money during joining. He said any manager or other person seeking a transaction from a newly appointed principal, headmaster, lecturer or teacher would face strict action.
The Chief Minister said the current recruitment process had been conducted on the basis of merit and transparency, and that corruption after appointment would not be accepted.
UPESSC Says Recruitment Process Is Moving Forward
UPESSC chairman Prashant Kumar said the commission had completed four examinations that had remained pending since 2022, with results of three already declared. He also said the commission had released a calendar for six upcoming examinations.
The appointment programme also included Yogi’s remarks on the role of teachers beyond classroom instruction, with the Chief Minister urging the newly appointed educators to contribute to students’ overall development. The state government said more than 42,000 teachers have been appointed in the secondary education department since 2017.
