Prayagraj: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will lay the foundation stone for the Padma Lok Awas Yojana in Prayagraj on Thursday. The affordable housing project proposes the construction of around 600 flats on land reclaimed from mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.

The project is planned on more than one hectare of land in the Sadar tehsil area of Prayagraj. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) aims to develop the site to provide affordable housing.

PDA Vice-Chairman Rishi Raj said preparations were underway for the foundation stone-laying ceremony. Senior officials and public representatives are expected to attend the programme.

Padma Lok Awas Yojana to Have Around 600 Flats

Under the proposed Padma Lok Awas Yojana, the PDA plans to construct approximately 600 residential flats. According to Rishi Raj, the land belongs to the development authority but had previously been occupied by mafia elements.

Following the reclamation of the land, the authority decided to utilise the site for an affordable housing project.

The initiative is aimed at developing the reclaimed land for residential use. However, details regarding the proposed flats, including their sizes, prices, eligibility criteria and allotment procedures, have not yet been finalised.

DPR Under Process, Tendering to Follow Approval

The proposed housing project has been registered with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), Rishi Raj said.

The detailed project report (DPR) is currently being processed. Once the report receives approval, the Prayagraj Development Authority will complete the necessary formalities and initiate the tendering process.

The construction schedule and other project details will become clearer after the required approvals and procedural steps are completed.

Earlier Housing Project Built on Land Reclaimed from Atiq Ahmed

Prayagraj has previously seen an affordable housing initiative on land reclaimed from Atiq Ahmed.

In the Lukerganj area, land reclaimed from the former mafia figure was used to construct 76 flats under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The completed homes were subsequently allotted to eligible beneficiaries.

The proposed Padma Lok Awas Yojana is another initiative to utilise reclaimed land for housing development in Prayagraj. With around 600 flats planned, the project is expected to expand the availability of affordable residential units in the city.

Flat Prices and Beneficiary Details Await Finalisation

Although the foundation stone-laying ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, the PDA has yet to finalise key details for prospective beneficiaries.

Information on flat prices, unit sizes, eligibility requirements and the allotment process will be announced after the relevant planning and approval procedures are completed.

The project will move to the tendering stage once the DPR is approved and the authority completes the necessary formalities.
