In a remarkable endeavor, IPS officer Robin Hibu, Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, is set to establish a distinctive center near the India-China border in Arunachal Pradesh. This center, dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, is not only a tribute to the Father of the Nation but also a beacon of hope for the tribal communities residing in the remote areas along the border.

Scheduled for inauguration on October 2 by Mahatma Gandhi’s granddaughter, 93-year-old Tara Gandhi, the center promises to be a catalyst for positive change.

Indian Masterminds exclusively spoke with the 1993 batch IPS officer to know more about his new venture.

A LIFELONG COMMITMENT

For two decades, Mr. Hibu has been dedicating half of his salary to bring this dream to fruition. His unwavering commitment to uplifting the tribal communities and propagating Gandhian principles is evident in every aspect of this unique center.

“The center will house a cutting-edge digitized library, generously supported by ONGC, featuring an extensive collection on career guidance and Gandhian philosophy. This library is a pioneering initiative, a first of its kind in the region, that will provide invaluable resources to the local youth,” the officer told Indian Masterminds.

EMPOWERING TRIBAL YOUTH

One of the standout features is the multimedia digitized career guidance center. Here, tribal boys and girls can access digitized career information, download forms, and seek guidance on various career paths, eliminating the barriers they face due to their remote location.

BRIDGING THE GAP WITH AI

Recognizing the difficulties faced by tribal villagers in accessing essential services, the officer, in collaboration with Divya Sanskriti, is establishing a citizen service center powered by artificial intelligence.

“This innovative center will address pressing issues like water supply, electricity, identity cards, and healthcare, bringing vital services closer to the people,” shared the officer.

A HAVEN FOR TRIBAL CHILDREN

For the first time in the region, a children’s activity center will be established, featuring immersive 3D environments, educational materials, and a nurturing environment.

“This center aims to provide the tribal children with an enjoyable and educational space.”

EMPOWERING FARMERS AND ARTISANS

The Farmar’s Hub and Training Centre is another groundbreaking initiative, aimed at helping marginalized farmers and artisans market their products. It will offer cold storage facilities and training to farmers to improve agricultural practices, ensuring that even the smallest harvests find a market.

In addition to its primary functions, this center will serve as a multi-purpose community hub. It will feature a badminton court, a yoga promotion center, and a space for village meetings, fostering physical and mental well-being within the community.

A SYMBOL OF UNITY

A seven-foot bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi, the tallest in the Himalayan region, will stand proudly at the center. It will be a focal point for celebrating national events and cultural gatherings, uniting the tribal communities.

Mr. Hibu’s vision for the Mahatma Gandhi Center near the China border in Arunachal Pradesh is a testament to the transformative power of dedication and service. This unique center is poised to inspire and uplift the tribal communities, bridging the gap between remote areas and essential services, while preserving the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi.

As the officer aptly puts it, if each one of us takes a small step to give back to society, we can collectively initiate massive changes at the grassroots level. The Mahatma Gandhi Centre is a shining example of this philosophy and a beacon of hope for the future.
