In today’s world, where climate change and environmental degradation pose significant challenges, individuals like IPS Raja Babu Singh stand out as shining examples of hope and inspiration. Not only has his continuous commitment to nature and environmental conservation had a positive effect locally, but it also acts as a model for larger endeavors.

Let’s delve into the remarkable journey and initiatives led by IPS Raja Babu Singh, showcasing his passion for nature and the environment, which he shared in an exclusive conversation with Indian Masterminds.

A NATURE LOVER SINCE CHILDHOOD

Born in the serene village of Pachanehi in the Banda district, Mr. Singh grew up surrounded by nature’s beauty. His upbringing instilled in him a deep love for the environment and a sense of responsibility towards its preservation. He pursued his education diligently, completing his primary education in his village and further studies at Jhansi and Allahabad University, specializing in Philosophy.

“I grew up in the fields beneath the sun, playing in the woods amid the tall trees. I was a regular farm boy who labored the soil with my hands while helping my father in the fields. I used to herd cattle and take them out to graze. I am an IPS by duty but a true farmer by heart,” Mr. Singh shared.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND TREE PLANTATION

Mr. Singh’s environmental journey began with a mission to plant trees and promote green cover. His efforts have been instrumental in planting thousands of trees across various locations. Notably, he initiated a tree plantation drive near the airport in Kashmir, symbolizing his commitment to combating pollution and promoting green spaces.

“I chose the Humhama camp and organized a plantation drive in which we planted approximately 7,000 saplings in a single day and promised to take care of them. Today, they have grown into tall trees that not only beautify the landscape but also provide freshness to it,” shared the officer.

NATIVE FARMHOUSE AND NATURE FESTIVALS

One of Mr. Singh’s notable endeavors is his native farmhouse, spread across 25 bighas of land in his village. This farmhouse is not just a personal retreat but a testament to his vision of creating a mini-forest. It hosts Nature Festivals, bringing together farmers, experts, and enthusiasts to promote sustainable agriculture and environmental practices.

The last annual nature festival that was organized in the farmhouse took place on the 15th and 16th of July 2023, and the next one will take place again in July. The festival hosts a large number of farmers, agriculture enthusiasts, and experts from all over the country. Scientists from Jhansi, Lucknow, and Banda also participated in this function.

“We invited well-known agricultural scientists to the festival, who offered knowledge about natural farming to farmers. During this time, approximately 500 fruit plants were planted. We focused on dragon fruit farming and encouraged our farmers to do the same,” stated Mr. Singh.

During his three-day visit to his home district, the officer not only planted 108 saplings on the judge’s campus alongside the district judge but also planted numerous trees in several villages across Atarra and Baberu tehsils. In addition, he spoke at numerous environmental seminars and provided farmers with in-depth knowledge about natural farming.

ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Beyond tree planting, Mr. Singh actively engages with communities, advocating for environmental awareness and sustainable living. He emphasizes teachings from the Bhagavad Gita and Gandhian principles, promoting holistic values that include environmental stewardship as a core element.

“I distributed thousands of Shrimad Bhagwat Gita copies to students of different colleges in Gwalior, even to jail inmates, and motivated them to read Shrimad Bhagwat Gita,” he told Indian Masterminds.

PROMOTING ECO-FRIENDLY PRACTICES

Mr. Singh’s initiatives extend to promoting eco-friendly practices in everyday life. His campaign within BSF campuses to encourage bicycle rides over motorized vehicles showcases a practical approach to reducing carbon emissions and fostering a greener environment.

For the first time in 33 years, the BSF organized a 20-kilometer cycle rally on the streets of Srinagar. BSF personnel rode bicycles around Srinagar in the early morning, carrying tricolors. For the first time, BSF troopers were riding cycles in large numbers on Srinagar streets, and that too without a weapon.

The rally was flagged off at BSF Humhama Camp and concluded at the famed Botanical Garden on Boulevard Road on the banks of Dal Lake, with Mr. Singh, then IG Frontier Kashmir, leading the cycling rally.

INSPIRING FUTURE GENERATIONS

Through his actions and advocacy, Mr. Singh is inspiring future generations to prioritize environmental conservation. His holistic approach, combining tree planting, eco-friendly practices, and community engagement, underscores the importance of collective efforts in safeguarding our planet.

Mr. Singh’s passionate commitment to nature and the environment serves as a shining example of individual responsibility and collective action in addressing environmental challenges. His initiatives not only contribute to a greener tomorrow but also foster a deeper connection between humans and the natural world.
