In a significant reshuffle of the police department, the Government of Tripura has transferred and reassigned several senior IPS (Indian Police Service) and TPS (Tripura Police Service) officers on Monday. The reshuffle aims to bring about administrative changes and enhance the efficiency of law enforcement across the state. The notification included a number of high-ranking officers who have been moved to new positions to optimize police operations and strengthen security measures.
Key Changes in Senior Leadership
One of the major changes in the reshuffle includes the transfer of 2007 batch IPS officer Avula Ramesh Reddy, the DIGP (HQrs), who has been appointed as the IGP (Crime). This move reflects the state government’s focus on addressing crime-related issues more effectively. Reddy’s expertise and experience are expected to aid in the management and supervision of criminal investigations and law enforcement in Tripura.
Additionally, M Raja Murugan, the ADGP (Training), has been given the additional charge of IG (Admin). This dual responsibility allows Murugan to oversee police administration while continuing his role in training police personnel, a crucial aspect in improving the overall efficiency of the force.
Other Notable Transfers
2008 batch IPS officer Ipper Manchak, the DIGP (SR & NR), has been transferred and appointed as the in-charge IGP (L/O) with the additional charge of DIGP Southern Range. This reshuffle positions Manchak in charge of the southern range, a region that requires focused attention for security and law enforcement.
2010 batch IPS officer Krishnendu Chakravertty, previously the DIGP (Crime, Intl., & Security), has now been given the additional responsibility of SP (SB). As part of this move, he has been relieved from his earlier charge of SP Vigilance. The new charge brings Chakravertty closer to internal security, which is becoming an increasingly significant aspect of Tripura’s law enforcement agenda.
Meanwhile, Prabir Majumder, the former DIGP, has been transferred to the position of DIGP Headquarters, a key role focused on overseeing the overall functioning of the police in the state capital, Agartala.
Transfers at District and Specialized Levels
In the district-level reshuffle, Rati Ranjan Debnath, the DIGP, has been appointed as DIGP (Northern Range). This move aims to strengthen the law enforcement system in the northern districts of Tripura, known for its complex challenges related to security.
Other district-level shifts include the transfer of Bijoy Debbarma, who has been posted as SP Sepahijala from his previous role as SP Procurement, and Manik Das, who has now been posted as SP Procurement after serving as SP Traffic. Sudambika R., the former Addl. SP (Traffic), has now been promoted to the post of SP Traffic, marking a significant step in her career.
Bhanupada Chakraborty, the former SP (PHQ), has been transferred and appointed as Commandant, TSR 1st Bn., and Ashok Kumar Sinha, the incumbent SP South, has now been moved to the post of Commandant, 12th-Bn TSR. Ranaditya Das, the Commandant of 12th-Bn TSR, has been transferred to the position of SP Khowai.
In another significant move, Bikas Deb, the Addl. SP (Vigilance), has been promoted to the role of SP Vigilance, strengthening the vigilance division’s capacity to fight corruption and ensure transparency in the police department.
Appointments of Additional and Probationary Officers
Piyamadhuri Majumder, the Addl. SP (TPCB), has been transferred and appointed as SP Anti-Narcotics, a critical role aimed at combating the rising narcotics problem in the state.
The reshuffle also saw the transfer of Deputy Commandant of 13th-Bn TSR Ranadhir Debbarma, who has been moved to the post of SP (Police Control), and Badal Debbarma, the Dy. SP of 5th-Bn TSR, who has been appointed as SP Communication, enhancing communication networks within the police department.
The reshuffle also includes the transfer of Addl. SP (PHQ) Uttam Banik, who has now been posted as Addl. SP (Khowai), with an aim to improve coordination in the Khowai district.
New Roles for IPS Probationers
In a move that highlights the involvement of younger officers in important roles, two IPS Probationers, D. Kudiarasu and Rishabh, have been assigned to serve as SDPO Khowai and SDPO Belonia, respectively. These appointments will allow the probationers to gain practical experience in managing law enforcement at the district level.
This reshuffle of key police officers within the Tripura Police Department comes at a time when the state government is focused on improving police efficiency and addressing growing security challenges.
