The selection is carried out by the UPSC through the Departmental Promotion Committee after considering:
- Availability of IPS promotion quota vacancies
- Length of service
- Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs)/Annual Performance Appraisal Reports (APARs)
- Integrity and vigilance clearance
- Recommendations of the State Government
- Overall suitability for induction into the IPS
Only officers found fit by the committee are recommended for appointment.
Senior Policing Responsibilities Await
Once the Central Government issues the appointment orders, the promoted officers will be inducted into the Uttar Pradesh IPS cadre and assigned senior policing responsibilities in accordance with cadre rules.
Their elevation is expected to strengthen the leadership structure of the Uttar Pradesh Police by bringing experienced field officers into the IPS cadre through the promotion channel.
The induction also fills vacancies under the promotion quota and ensures better cadre management within the state’s police administration.
