New Delhi: Indian Police Service officer A Shiyas (IPS:2008:MP) has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the Border Security Force (BSF) on central deputation.
According to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on August 17, 2026, the competent authority approved his appointment in the BSF on the usual terms and conditions of central deputation.
Shiyas, a 2008-batch IPS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was serving as Inspector General of Police, Cyber Police Headquarters, Bhopal, before moving to the BSF.
His appointment marks another central assignment in a career that has included significant responsibilities in both the Madhya Pradesh Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Who is A Shiyas?
A. Shiyas is an Indian Police Service officer from the 2008 batch of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He entered the IPS as a Direct Recruit (RR) through the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
He formally joined the IPS on December 22, 2008, and has around 18 years of service. His home state is Kerala, while his allotted cadre is Madhya Pradesh.
His official IPS identity is recorded as 20081222.
Born in 1980, Shiyas has served in several important policing and investigative assignments during his career, including a substantial stint on central deputation with the CBI.
Served on Central Deputation with CBI
One of the significant phases of Shiyas’s career was his tenure with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
During his central deputation, he served as a Superintendent of Police (SP) in the premier investigating agency under the administrative framework of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
He was subsequently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in June 2022 while continuing his tenure with the CBI.
His experience in the central investigative agency added a major dimension to his policing career before his return to the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
Returned to Madhya Pradesh Cadre
After completing his CBI tenure, Shiyas returned to his parent cadre in Madhya Pradesh and took up responsibilities in the state police.
Prior to his latest central deputation, he was posted as Inspector General of Police at the Cyber Police Headquarters in Bhopal.
He was serving at Pay Level 14, with the posting recorded from January 1, 2026.
His assignment in the cyber wing came at a time when specialised policing, cybercrime investigation and technology-driven law enforcement have become increasingly important areas for state police forces.
New Role in Border Security Force
With the latest MHA order, Shiyas will now serve as an Inspector General in the Border Security Force.
The BSF is one of India’s major Central Armed Police Forces and is primarily responsible for guarding the country’s international borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh, besides performing several other security and law-enforcement duties.
Shiyas’s experience in investigation, policing, central agency assignments and cyber-related responsibilities is expected to add to his profile as he takes up the new central deputation.
The appointment has been approved on the usual terms and conditions of central deputation, as specified in the MHA order.
Around 18 Years of IPS Service
Shiyas joined the IPS in December 2008 and has completed nearly 18 years in the service.
His career has included postings in the Madhya Pradesh Police, a lengthy assignment with the CBI, promotion to DIG, and his recent role as IGP, Cyber Police Headquarters, Bhopal.
His move to the BSF is therefore his latest transition into a senior central security assignment.
Raj Kumar’s Tenure Extended in Uttarakhand
In another significant development, the tenure of Raj Kumar (BSF:1992) with the State Government of Uttarakhand has been extended.
According to the decision, his tenure has been extended for a period of one year beyond July 11, 2026.
The extension means that Raj Kumar will continue in his existing assignment with the Uttarakhand government for the additional one-year period.
The two developments come amid continuing movements and extensions involving senior officers serving on deputation in central and state establishments.
