Patna: The Bihar government is set to launch a major statewide initiative against corruption with the observance of “Bihar Vigilance Awareness Day” for the first time. The event will be held from July 2 to July 8, 2026, across the state as part of Vigilance Awareness Week.
The initiative aims to promote awareness, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and encourage public participation in building a corruption-free Bihar.
Statewide Anti-Corruption Awareness Campaign
The special week-long programme has been announced as part of the state’s continued commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain and Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary have issued special messages highlighting the importance of the initiative.
The Chief Minister emphasized that corruption weakens governance and slows down development, and therefore strict action along with public awareness is essential to control it.
He also appealed to citizens to actively participate in building a corruption-free Bihar.

Major Event at Patna’s Gyan Bhawan on July 2
The main programme will be held on July 2 at Gyan Bhawan, Patna, where Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister, senior officials, and government employees will be present.
Key highlights of the event include:
- Oath-taking ceremony against corruption for officials at all levels
- Participation of top administrative and vigilance officials
- Review of departmental vigilance activities
- Unveiling of the new logo of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau
The new logo marks the first official identity branding of the bureau, giving it a structured institutional recognition nearly 79 years after its formation.
District-Level Awareness Programs Across Bihar
From July 2 onwards, district administrations under DM and SP supervision will conduct various awareness activities, including:
- Anti-corruption pledge ceremonies
- Essay competitions
- Debate competitions
- Painting and poster-making events
- Public awareness campaigns
These programmes aim to engage students, government employees, and the general public in anti-corruption awareness efforts.
Recognition of Anti-Corruption Achievements
According to Vigilance Investigation Bureau Director General Jitendra Singh Gangwar, the bureau has secured convictions of 10 corruption accused persons in 2026 so far.
Officials involved in investigations, verification, trap operations, and legal proceedings will be honoured during the main programme for their contributions.
Additional Activities During Vigilance Week
Several other programmes will also be conducted during the awareness week, including:
- Tree plantation drives
- Lectures by police and vigilance officials
- Slogan and poster writing competitions
- Panel discussions and awareness sessions
These initiatives aim to strengthen public engagement and institutional accountability.

The Vigilance Department traces its origin to July 2, 1946, when it was first established as an anti-corruption unit under the supply and construction departments.
Key developments include:
- 1973: First vigilance police station established
- 1981: Independent Vigilance Bureau formed
- 2009–2010: Special courts and rules established under Bihar Special Courts Act for handling corruption cases
These reforms strengthened the legal framework for tackling corruption and asset recovery.

The Bihar government reiterated its commitment to strict action against corruption and improving transparency in governance. Officials said the initiative will strengthen institutional accountability and encourage public awareness against corrupt practices.
