19 senior-most officers of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) are given transfer orders to head various assessment ranges and special divisions of the Income Tax Department across India.
Issuing the transfer orders on Wednesday night, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) transferred and posted officers holding high rank. This includes the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax and the Principal Director General of Income Tax.
The passed includes one officer from 1984 batch, nine officers from 1986 batch, and nine officers from 1987 batch of the IRS. 14 officers of which are given new postings on promotion while others are transferred.
Heading the Income tax Department ranges in the north-west region (headquartered at Chandigarh), the officers are also transferred to Delhi, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Sikkim, Gujarat, West Bengal, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh among other states across the country.
A senior officer told the PTI, “The vacancies in these positions were existing for varied lengths of time.”
The Central Board of Direct Taxes frames policy for the Income Tax Department, under which the Income Tax Department is responsible for collecting revenue under the direct taxes category including personal income tax and corporate tax.
