The appointment for the Director-General of Police of Maharashtra stays on hold since UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) has asked for the list of police officers who are in the Indian Police Service for 30 years.
Originally, the officers in the rank of DG would be considered for heading the police department of the state. However, now all the IPS officers who have completed their 30 years of service will be considered for this top post.
Maharashtra’s DGP post has been lying vacant since Jan 7, as Subodh Kumar Jaiswal took up the post of Director in the Central Bureau of Investigation and Director General of the Central Industrial Security Forces subsequently. The charge was primitively given to Hemant Nagrale, but following his appointment as Mumbai CP, the charge was then given to ACB Director General Rajneeth Seth.
Currently, senior IPS officer Sanjay Pandey has been holding the additional charge as DGP since April 10.
