Raipur: The Government of India’s PM-SETU (Pradhan Mantri Skill Enhancement and Transformation of ITIs) scheme is being implemented to modernize government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and make them more industry-oriented, aiming to equip students with advanced skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), drone technology, and other emerging fields.
A high-level review meeting on the scheme was held at the Mantralaya, Mahanadi Bhawan, under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Vikas Sheel, where progress of ITI upgradation across the state was reviewed.
Objective: Industry-Ready Youth Through Advanced Skill Training
The PM-SETU initiative focuses on transforming traditional ITIs into modern skill development centres. The core objectives include:
- Training students in AI, drone technology, and digital skills
- Upgrading outdated machinery with modern, industry-grade equipment
- Introducing smart classrooms and digital learning content
- Aligning training programs with local and industrial employment needs
Officials emphasized that the scheme aims to improve employability and create a skilled workforce aligned with industry demand.
Review Meeting Held at Mahanadi Bhawan
The state-level steering committee meeting assessed the ongoing implementation of the PM-SETU scheme in Chhattisgarh.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on:
- Upgradation of selected government ITIs in the state
- Development of industry-linked training modules
- Selection of Anchor Industry Partners for collaboration
- Finalization of eligibility criteria for industrial participation
The Chief Secretary directed departments to ensure smooth and timely execution of all planned upgrades.
Industry Collaboration for Employment-Oriented Training
A key focus of the discussion was building strong partnerships between ITIs and industries to ensure job-oriented skill training.
The government plans to:
- Invite industries and public sector units through Expression of Interest (EoI)
- Provide opportunities to all eligible industries for participation
- Involve industry partners in curriculum design and training delivery
- Ensure training leads to direct local employment opportunities
This approach is expected to bridge the gap between education and industry requirements.

- Installation of smart classrooms

These upgrades aim to make ITIs more relevant to current and future job markets.
