Raipur: Chhattisgarh is rapidly emerging as a major tourism and hospitality destination after the state government granted industry status to the tourism sector. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the state is now witnessing rising investor interest, with Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) planning to invest more than ₹500 crore in Chhattisgarh’s hospitality sector.

The proposed investment is expected to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve visitor facilities, and generate large-scale employment opportunities across the state.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai Pushes Tourism-Led Development

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a high-level meeting focused on tourism promotion, expansion of hospitality infrastructure, and investment opportunities in the sector. Senior government officials and representatives from Indian Hotels Company Limited participated in the meeting.

The Chief Minister said Chhattisgarh possesses immense natural beauty and cultural richness, including rivers, forests, waterfalls, hills, and vibrant tribal traditions, making it a unique tourism destination in India.

He added that the state government aims to showcase Chhattisgarh’s natural and cultural heritage on the global tourism map.

₹500 Crore Hospitality Investment Planned by IHCL

During the meeting, representatives of Indian Hotels Company Limited shared details of their proposed investment plan for the state.

According to officials:

  • IHCL plans to invest over ₹500 crore in Chhattisgarh’s hospitality sector
  • The investment will focus on strengthening tourism infrastructure and accommodation facilities
  • The project is expected to create significant employment and self-employment opportunities for local youth

The state government described the proposal as a major step toward positioning Chhattisgarh as an attractive tourism and hospitality hub.

Tourism Gets Industry Status in Chhattisgarh

The government highlighted that granting industry status to tourism has opened new opportunities for private investment in hotels, resorts, transportation, and tourism services.

Officials stated that the new policy framework is helping create an investor-friendly environment through:

  • Simplified approval processes
  • Transparent and time-bound clearances
  • Infrastructure development support
  • Investment incentives for large projects

The government believes these reforms will accelerate tourism-led economic growth in the state.

Special Incentives for Large Investors

During the meeting, industry department officials informed investors about benefits available under the state’s investment promotion policy.

The government said projects investing more than ₹500 crore or generating employment for over 1,000 people would qualify for additional incentives under the state’s “Bespoke Policy.”

Authorities also stressed that road connectivity, accommodation facilities, and tourism services are being upgraded to support future tourism expansion.

Chhattisgarh Emerging as a New Tourism Destination

Officials said Chhattisgarh’s favorable monsoon conditions, rich biodiversity, and tribal heritage provide a strong foundation for tourism growth.

The state government is now focusing on developing modern tourism infrastructure while preserving the region’s natural and cultural identity. With increasing private sector interest and supportive government policies, Chhattisgarh is positioning itself as one of India’s emerging tourism investment destinations.
