Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed officials to design social welfare schemes by keeping the next 25 years’ requirements and challenges in mind. During a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department in Dehradun, the Chief Minister emphasized developing a governance model in Uttarakhand that could become an example for other states.
The Chief Minister also reviewed various welfare initiatives and instructed officials to ensure timely completion of important projects, transparent implementation of schemes, and better delivery of benefits to eligible citizens.
Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostels to Be Completed by October 2026
During the meeting, CM Dhami directed officials to complete the under-construction Babu Jagjivan Ram hostels in:
- Doiwala, Dehradun
- Pines, Nainital
- Someshwar, Almora
by October 2026 without delay.
He said providing modern residential and educational facilities to students from the Scheduled Caste community is a key priority of the state government.
The Chief Minister highlighted that welfare schemes should not only address present needs but should also create long-term benefits for future generations.

₹145.42 Crore Pension Amount Transferred Through DBT
CM Dhami released the June 2026 pension amount under various Social Welfare Department schemes through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Through a single click, financial assistance of ₹145.42 crore was transferred directly into the bank accounts of 9,80,950 beneficiaries.
The contribution included:
- Central Government share: Around ₹7.02 crore
- State Government share: Around ₹138.40 crore
The DBT system aims to ensure faster, transparent, and hassle-free delivery of pension benefits.
Old Age Pension Beneficiaries Receive Highest Share
Among the pension schemes, the largest amount was transferred to old age pension beneficiaries.
The distribution details for June 2026 include:
- 6,11,245 old age pension beneficiaries received ₹91.69 crore
- 2,35,850 widow pension beneficiaries received ₹35.38 crore
- 88,787 disabled pension beneficiaries received ₹13.32 crore
- 27,207 farmer pension beneficiaries received ₹3.26 crore
Other beneficiaries also received financial support under different welfare schemes:
- 8,258 abandoned women pension beneficiaries received ₹99.10 lakh
- 7,297 maintenance grant beneficiaries received ₹51.08 lakh
- 2,179 Teelu Rauteli pension beneficiaries received ₹26.15 lakh
- 127 dwarf pension beneficiaries received ₹1.52 lakh
CM Dhami Calls for Automatic Inclusion in Old Age Pension Scheme
The Chief Minister instructed officials to simplify the old age pension process.
He suggested that eligible citizens should be automatically connected with the pension scheme after completing 60 years of age, reducing the need for applications and unnecessary paperwork.
CM Dhami also stressed the importance of better coordination between different departmental schemes. He directed officials to integrate schemes effectively so that resources are used efficiently and duplication of work can be avoided.
Focus on Transparency and Long-Term Sustainability of Projects
During the review meeting, the Chief Minister instructed departments to maintain:
- Financial discipline
- Transparency in implementation
- Long-term sustainability of projects
He said government schemes should not only be launched but should also create strong systems that continue benefiting citizens for years.
Review of Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme
The meeting also included a detailed review of the Babu Jagjivan Ram Hostel Scheme, which provides residential facilities to Scheduled Caste students pursuing education at secondary, higher, and university levels.
The state government provides additional financial support whenever required to ensure that hostels are developed with modern facilities and better infrastructure.
CM Dhami said that education, social security, and dignity are basic rights of every eligible citizen, and the government is committed to ensuring that welfare benefits reach the last person in society.
