New Delhi: India’s defence modernisation received a major boost after Adani Defence & Aerospace delivered Agnikaa VTOL-1 FPV Kamikaze Drones and ULPGM Precision Munitions to the Indian Army under Emergency Procurement (EP-6).

The delivery is being seen as an important step in strengthening India’s indigenous warfare capabilities and reducing dependence on foreign military systems.

The systems were reportedly validated in high-altitude and electronic warfare conditions before induction, highlighting their operational readiness for modern battlefield requirements.

According to reports, the handover was witnessed in Hyderabad by representatives linked to the Indian Army’s Western Command. The move reflects the Army’s increasing focus on domestically built precision strike systems and loitering munitions.

India has been accelerating emergency procurement of drones, guided weapons, and counter-drone systems after recent operational requirements along sensitive borders.

What Is The Agnikaa VTOL-1 FPV Kamikaze Drone?

The Agnikaa VTOL-1 is a Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) First-Person View (FPV) kamikaze drone designed for precision strike operations.

Its VTOL capability allows it to operate from difficult terrains, mountainous regions, and confined launch areas where conventional systems may face limitations.

The FPV system enables operators to maintain direct visual control during missions, improving targeting accuracy and battlefield awareness.

What are the Features Of Agnikaa VTOL-1 FPV Kamikaze Drone

  • Vertical take-off and landing capability
  • Designed for rugged and high-altitude operations
  • FPV-enabled precision targeting
  • Effective in electronic warfare environments
  • Suitable for rapid tactical deployment
  • Optimised for asymmetric warfare missions

Military experts believe such loitering munitions are becoming increasingly important in modern combat due to their low cost, mobility, and precision strike capability.

ULPGM Precision Munition Strengthens Strike Capability

The ULPGM, or UAV-Launched Precision Guided Munition, is a lightweight guided weapon system developed for highly accurate strikes.

The munition has been developed through collaboration involving DRDO-linked programmes and Indian defence manufacturing partners. Adani Defence & Aerospace and Bharat Dynamics Limited are among the manufacturing partners associated with the programme.

The missile family is designed for deployment from unmanned aerial platforms and is capable of engaging fortified positions, armoured threats, and high-value targets with reduced collateral damage.

Reported ULPGM Capabilities

  • Precision-guided strike system
  • Lightweight and rapidly deployable
  • Designed for UAV launch platforms
  • Suitable for pinpoint attacks
  • Improved battlefield flexibility
  • Enhanced accuracy with guided targeting systems

Emergency Procurement Reflects Operational Urgency

The procurement was completed under the Indian Army’s Emergency Procurement framework, which allows faster acquisition of mission-critical equipment during urgent operational requirements.

Recent developments suggest India is prioritising rapid induction of advanced systems such as drones, guided munitions, and surveillance platforms to improve combat preparedness.
