Why Siachen Is So Challenging
Siachen Glacier is called the world’s highest battlefield. The glacier is located at an altitude of over 20,000 feet above sea level. Soldiers posted face:
- Freezing temperatures below -40°C
- Thin air with very low oxygen
- Heavy snowfall
- Avalanches
- Dangerous glaciers and deep crevasses
Only highly trained soldiers can safely operate in these conditions.
Why This Achievement Is Important
Captain Shiva Chauhan’s achievement is more than a personal success. It reflects the Indian Army’s commitment to providing equal opportunities to capable officers, regardless of gender. Her success proves that courage, leadership, discipline, and determination matter more than anything else.
