Chandigarh: 61 NCC Cadets Commissioned as Officers in Indian Armed Forces is a major achievement for Chandigarh University and a proud moment for the nation. The university announced that 61 cadets from its National Cadet Corps (NCC) Wing have been commissioned as officers in the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Indian Coast Guard, highlighting its growing contribution to nation-building and military leadership.
Established in 2013, the NCC Wing at Chandigarh University has become an important platform for students who dream of serving the country. Since its launch, the university has produced 61 commissioned officers, including 32 in the Indian Army, 18 in the Indian Navy, 10 in the Indian Air Force and one in the Indian Coast Guard.
The university has trained 702 NCC cadets, including 424 boys and 278 girls. Around 40% of its 54 NCC seats are reserved for female cadets, encouraging more young women to build careers in the Armed Forces.

According to Chandigarh University, its NCC programme focuses on leadership, discipline, physical fitness and military training. Alumni have credited the university’s regular training camps, strict discipline and experienced mentors for helping them succeed in defence selection processes.
Major Achievements of Chandigarh University Cadets
One of the university’s distinguished alumni is Major Arshdeep Singh Gill, a Civil Engineering graduate. He received the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award, from President Droupadi Murmu for displaying exceptional bravery during a counter-insurgency operation in Manipur while serving with the 1 Assam Rifles.
The university’s NCC cadets have also performed well at premier military academies. Sachpreet Singh and Rishabh Sharma earned silver and bronze medals respectively during the Naval Orientation Course (Extended) at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, before being commissioned as Sub-Lieutenants in the Indian Navy.
NCC Cadets Commissioning: Students Secure Top National Defence Ranks
Several Chandigarh University students have secured top national rankings in defence entry examinations. Jasnoor Singh, a Computer Science Engineering student, secured All India Rank 1 in the Indian Naval Academy merit list of the UPSC Combined Defence Services (CDS)-II Examination 2025.
Harkirat Singh, an Aerospace Engineering student, achieved All India Rank 1 in the Indian Air Force NCC Special Entry (Men) and has been commissioned as a Flying Officer after completing training at the Air Force Academy, Dundigal.
Aman Kumar Singh, a Computer Science Engineering student, has also been commissioned as an Assistant Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard.
Women cadets have also made their mark. Nandini is currently undergoing training at the Air Force Academy, while Aashi Sharma has been commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in the Indian Navy after successfully clearing the Short Service Commission (Information Technology) entry.
NCC Cadets Commissioning: Defence Scholarships for Armed Forces Families
Chandigarh University said it supports families of defence personnel through the Armed Forces Educational Welfare Scheme and the Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra Scholarship. Over the last 13 years, the university has awarded defence scholarships worth more than ₹6 crore to 5,723 students.
University Reaffirms Commitment to Nation-Building
Senior Managing Director Deepinder Singh Sandhu said the university believes nation-building is as important as education. He added that the NCC Wing develops leadership, discipline, integrity and courage while preparing students to serve the country with honour.
