New Delhi: India and Russia are in active talks for additional S-400 air defence systems after the missile shield reportedly showed strong combat performance during Operation Sindoor.
The development was confirmed by Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), which said New Delhi has expressed interest in buying more S-400 units.
India Russia S-400 Deal: India Looking to Strengthen Air Defence Network
Russia confirmed that negotiations are currently underway for a fresh batch of S-400 Triumf systems for India.

- India already signed a $5.4 billion deal with Russia in 2018 for five S-400 regiments.
- Three systems have already been delivered.
- The remaining units are expected to arrive by the end of 2026.

Russia Praises S-400 Performance During Operation Sindoor
Russian officials said the S-400 system performed effectively during India’s Operation Sindoor, launched after the Pahalgam terror attack.
According to open-source military reports cited by Russian media:
- The S-400 reportedly intercepted hostile aerial targets at very long ranges.
- The system helped India strengthen its air defence against aerial threats.
- Russia described the operational performance as highly effective during the India-Pakistan military tensions.
The S-400 system is known in India as “Sudarshan.”
What Makes the S-400 Important for India?
The S-400 Triumf is considered one of the world’s most advanced air defence systems.
Capabilities include:
- Tracking multiple aerial targets simultaneously
- Intercepting fighter jets, drones, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles
