Delhi Expands Atal Canteen Scheme with 25 New Centers, Serving Affordable Meals to 50,000 Needy People Daily

New Delhi: In a significant move to provide affordable and nutritious meals to the needy, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Vinay Kumar Saxena, inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens in the city today. The inauguration took place at Geeta Colony, marking a major expansion of the scheme aimed at supporting workers and the underprivileged population.

Increased Meal Distribution: 50,000 People Served Daily

With the addition of these 25 new canteens, the total number of Atal Canteens in Delhi has risen to 71, which will now serve approximately 50,000 people daily, a significant increase from the earlier 26,000. These canteens will provide affordable, hot, and nutritious meals for just ₹5, with a focus on providing for the labor force that contributes to the city’s development.

Previous Success: Over 14.5 Lakh Meals Served

The Atal Canteen initiative has already made a significant impact, having served over 14.58 lakh meals to date. With the expansion of 25 more canteens, it is expected to cater to 50,000 individuals daily. The program continues to be a lifeline for Delhi’s workers, ensuring that they have access to healthy and affordable meals.

A Bold Vision for a Hunger-Free Delhi

The Delhi government, under the guidance of Mr. Narendra Modi and inspired by the late Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, is committed to opening 100 Atal Canteens in the city. This vision will further strengthen the food security network in Delhi, ensuring that anyone in need can receive a nutritious meal at a nominal cost.
