New Delhi: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has launched India’s first in-car fuel payment solution in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and ToneTag for Tata Cars. The solution enables customers to make fuel payments directly through the dashboard of their connected vehicles.
The initiative was launched during the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 and is being introduced at IndianOil retail outlets, bringing together connected mobility and digital payments to create a more convenient refuelling experience.
India’s First In-Car Fuel Payment Solution
Under the new solution, customers can complete their fuel payment through the connected dashboard of their vehicle after refuelling.
Unlike conventional payment methods, the system does not require customers to use a separate mobile application, card or another payment instrument for completing the transaction.
The initiative is designed to make fuel payments more seamless by integrating the payment experience directly into the connected vehicle environment.

Solution Uses NPCI’s UPI Framework
The initiative leverages NPCI’s UPI Circle framework, along with the “Introduction of IoT Devices and Software on the UPI Ecosystem” initiative, to enable payments through connected vehicles.By integrating payment capabilities into the vehicle interface, the solution connects the refuelling process with India’s digital payments ecosystem.
XTRAREWARDS Loyalty Programme Integrated
The solution also integrates Indian Oil’s XTRAREWARDS loyalty programme, providing additional convenience to eligible customers. Customers can earn reward points on qualifying fuel transactions while using the in-car payment facility.
A key feature is that eligible customers can earn these reward points without sharing their mobile numbers during the payment process.
Collaboration Brings Connected Mobility and Digital Payments Together
The initiative combines the capabilities of multiple partners to create an integrated refuelling experience.
The collaboration brings together:
- Indian Oil’s extensive fuel-retail network
- Tata Cars’ connected vehicle ecosystem
- NPCI’s digital payment infrastructure
- ToneTag’s technology
The combined platform is aimed at making fuel payments faster, more convenient and secure for customers.
IndianOil Expands Digital Fuel Retail Experience
IndianOil said the initiative positions it as India’s first fuel retailer to introduce an in-car payment experience at its retail outlets.
The launch represents a step towards integrating connected mobility with digital payments and could further transform how customers interact with fuel stations.
The company said the platform could also serve as a foundation for expanding in-vehicle payments, commerce and other digital services in the future.
