Delhi Set for ₹7,000 Crore Central Funding Boost to Accelerate Infrastructure and Development Projects

Major funding expected to accelerate road construction, Yamuna cleaning, and stalled infrastructure works across the national capital in 2026–27.

Delhi: The national capital Delhi is likely to get a major financial boost this financial year, with the central government expected to provide around ₹7,000 crore in assistance. This is significantly higher than previous estimates and is expected to accelerate several key development projects across the city.

The funding is likely to strengthen infrastructure, improve public services, and revive several stalled projects.

Focus on Roads, Infrastructure and Yamuna Cleaning

A major share of the proposed funds is expected to be allocated to core development areas such as road construction, infrastructure upgrades, and environmental improvement projects.

Key allocations under consideration include:

  • ₹1,500 crore for Yamuna river cleaning under the National Mission for Clean Ganga
  • ₹591 crore from the Central Road Fund for road development
  • ₹100 crore for strengthening disaster management systems in Delhi
  • ₹3,931.16 crore for various central government schemes implemented in the capital

Additionally, a proposal worth ₹1,000 crore has already been sent for approval to speed up projects of the Public Works Department and Delhi Jal Board.

Major Relief Compared to Previous Year

Officials said the total central assistance for the financial year 2026–27 could exceed ₹7,000 crore, which is around 34% higher than earlier estimates.

This comes as a major relief for the Delhi government, especially after the previous financial year saw lower-than-expected funding.

In 2025–26, expected allocations for development projects and central road funds were not fully received, and several central scheme allocations were also reduced significantly compared to initial projections.

Expected Boost to Stalled Development Projects

The new funding is expected to revive several delayed infrastructure projects in Delhi that had slowed down due to financial constraints. A large portion of the budget is likely to go towards improving road networks, upgrading civic infrastructure, and accelerating environmental projects.

Strong Push for Urban Development in Delhi

If approved and fully released, the ₹7,000 crore support is expected to play a key role in strengthening Delhi’s infrastructure backbone.

Officials believe the funding will help bring stalled projects back on track and support long-term urban development across the national capital.
