Delhi: The Delhi government has approved a major healthcare and education project to construct an ultra-modern medical college at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in Dwarka. The project, worth ₹805.99 crore, aims to significantly strengthen the capital’s medical education and healthcare infrastructure.
The announcement was made under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who said the initiative is a key step toward making Delhi a leading centre for medical education.
250 MBBS Seats Every Year
The upcoming medical college will offer 250 MBBS seats annually, helping increase the availability of trained doctors in the city.
As per official details, the academic activities will begin with an initial batch of 150 students, gradually expanding in the coming years.
The college will be developed in line with standards set by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Modern Campus with Advanced Facilities
The project will include:
- A fully equipped medical college building
- Separate hostels for male and female students
- Residential quarters for faculty
- A modern academic block with advanced classrooms and laboratories
The infrastructure is designed to support high-quality medical education and training.
Focus on Green and Sustainable Design
The new campus will be built using eco-friendly and modern construction methods.
Key features will include:
- Earthquake-resistant structures
- Solar power systems
- Rainwater harvesting
- Water recycling facilities
- Natural lighting and ventilation systems
Officials said the project will follow green building standards to ensure sustainability.
Construction Timeline and Execution
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the project is expected to be completed by 2028.
The construction work will be carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD), while the Health and Family Welfare Department will oversee the project’s implementation.
The approval was granted in a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Boost to Delhi’s Healthcare System
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the project will help meet the rising demand for doctors and improve healthcare services in the national capital.
She added that the government’s goal is to make Delhi a major hub for medical education and healthcare excellence in the country.
