New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a high-level meeting at the Delhi Secretariat on Tuesday to address concerns related to O-Zone villages and colonies, where confusion had been spreading among residents regarding possible demolition actions.

The meeting focused on resolving public concerns, clarifying legal provisions, and ensuring smooth communication between authorities and residents.

No Demolition on Old Structures, Says Government

Following the meeting, the Chief Minister clarified that no demolition will be carried out on already constructed buildings in O-Zone colonies. She said that action will be taken only against new or ongoing illegal constructions, in accordance with the directions of the High Court.

This assurance was given to address growing anxiety among nearly 15 lakh residents living in these areas.

High Court Directions to Be Followed by DDA

CM Rekha Gupta instructed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to strictly follow the orders of the Hon’ble High Court. She emphasized that the interpretation of court directions must be accurate and implemented without causing unnecessary fear among residents. She also directed DDA to revise the language used on boards installed in O-Zone areas to ensure clarity and avoid confusion.

O-Zone Areas Include 92 Colonies and 12 Villages

Officials informed the Chief Minister that the O-Zone region includes:

  • Around 92 colonies
  • Nearly 12 old villages
  • Approximately 15 lakh residents

The issue gained attention after warning boards installed in these areas led to anxiety among local residents about possible demolition drives.

Clarification on Court Order and Construction Status

During the meeting, DDA officials clarified that the High Court has not raised concerns over already built structures, but has questioned ongoing or new constructions in restricted zones. The Chief Minister reiterated that government action must strictly align with the court’s directive, focusing only on unauthorized new construction activities.

Government Moves to Remove Public Confusion

CM Rekha Gupta stated that the language used on official boards in O-Zone areas must be revised to ensure residents do not misinterpret them as signals of mass demolition. The objective is to eliminate unnecessary fear and provide clear, accurate information to local communities.

Public Representatives Raise Concerns

The meeting was attended by several key leaders, including:

  • MP Manoj Tiwari
  • MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri
  • Yamuna Par Development Board Chairman & MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely
  • Senior officials from DDA and other departments

They highlighted that confusion over notices and signage had created panic among residents, despite no legal threat to existing homes.

Assurance to Residents and Policy Clarification

MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri assured residents after the meeting that no action will be taken against old settlements and that the High Court order applies only to new construction. He also urged residents not to undertake any new construction until a final policy clarification is issued.

CM to Meet Union Urban Development Minister

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also informed that she will soon meet the Union Urban Development Minister to discuss the issue in detail and ensure a clear and uniform policy direction.

Focus on Clarity and Resident Relief

The Delhi government has emphasized that its priority is to resolve public confusion, ensure compliance with court orders, and protect long-established settlements. With clarity on demolition rules and revised communication measures, the government aims to restore confidence among residents living in O-Zone colonies while maintaining legal compliance and urban planning norms.
