Delhi Government Allocates Rs 728 Crore to TYDB for Over 1,100 Civic Projects Across East Delhi

Trans Yamuna Development Board Plans Major Infrastructure Upgrades Across All 16 Assembly Constituencies to Address Civic Deficiencies
Indian Masterminds Stories

Delhi: Days after the Delhi government sanctioned Rs 728 crore for the reconstituted Trans Yamuna Development Board (TYDB), the board has unveiled plans to implement more than 1,100 small-scale infrastructure projects across East Delhi during the current financial year. These initiatives aim to address long-standing civic deficiencies and improve basic amenities for residents.

Projects to Cover All 16 Assembly Constituencies

The approved projects will be spread across all 16 assembly constituencies under TYDB’s jurisdiction, with a focus on enhancing roads, drainage systems, and sewer networks. Over 90% of the sanctioned works fall under these categories. Execution responsibilities will primarily lie with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), ensuring coordinated implementation.

TYDB Chairperson Arvinder Singh Lovely described the approvals as a major milestone, noting that the board met formally after a gap of nearly 15 years. “In the first meeting of the board after nearly 15 years, we approved a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that defines the type of works to be undertaken and the fund release process for executing agencies,” Lovely said.

Key Projects Include Roads, Flyovers, and Civic Amenities

Among the notable proposals is a flyover connecting Shyamlal College to Ghazipur, aimed at easing congestion along Road No. 57 near Dayanand Marg. Officials have already conducted site inspections to assess feasibility. Lovely stated, “We carried out an inspection with Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma to evaluate the proposal. The flyover above the drain can reduce congestion, and the Irrigation Department is now formalising the plan.”

The SOP allows a wide range of projects, including:

  • Upgrading water supply networks
  • Constructing government schools and classrooms
  • Developing parks, libraries, and sports facilities
  • Building roads, drains, subways, and footbridges
  • Installing street lighting
  • Repairing and maintaining public assets

However, TYDB funds cannot be used in unauthorised colonies, as these areas fall under separate schemes.

Focus on Transparency and Accountability

To ensure proper execution, all proposals must comply with CPWD norms, general financial rules, and the Delhi Schedule of Rates. Officials emphasized that these measures are designed to ensure transparency and accountability as projects move from planning to implementation.

TYDB officials noted that while the current focus is on basic civic improvements, larger projects will be taken up from next year once the fundamental infrastructure issues are addressed.
