Dehradun: Emphasising that true success extends far beyond academic achievements, Banshidhar Tiwari, a 2016 batch promotee IAS officer and Director General (Information), Uttarakhand, and Vice-Chairman of the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), urged students to build their lives on the foundations of knowledge, character, moral values and social responsibility rather than limiting themselves to securing high marks.

Addressing students at the ‘Times Achievers 2026’ event held at the Municipal Corporation Town Hall Auditorium in Dehradun, Tiwari said that lasting success is the outcome of continuous learning, perseverance and strong life values.

Success Is a Journey, Not an Overnight Achievement

Speaking to an audience comprising students, parents, teachers and educationists, Tiwari observed that success is never achieved overnight. Instead, it is built through sustained effort, discipline and a willingness to keep learning throughout life.

He said academic excellence is only one aspect of success. A fulfilling career, personal happiness and strong family values together define a truly successful life.

According to him, students should prepare themselves not only for examinations but also for the larger challenges and responsibilities that life presents.

Look Beyond Marks and Degrees

Encouraging students to adopt a broader perspective, Tiwari advised them not to measure their worth solely through examination scores or academic qualifications.

He urged them to cultivate qualities such as:

  • Honesty
  • Discipline
  • Patience
  • Sensitivity
  • Integrity
  • A sense of purpose
  • Social responsibility

These values, he said, are essential for achieving meaningful success and earning lasting respect in society.

Career Success Must Be Accompanied by Values

Tiwari noted that professional success undoubtedly creates opportunities, but genuine satisfaction comes from respecting family values and contributing positively to society.

He stressed that material achievements alone cannot define a successful life. Instead, success should also be measured by one’s character, relationships and commitment to the greater good.

India Needs Ethical and Responsible Youth

Highlighting India’s rapid development, the DG Information said the country requires a new generation of young people who combine professional excellence with ethical leadership, innovation and responsible citizenship.

He encouraged students to remain humble and grateful even as they achieve success, reminding them that humility and gratitude are qualities that sustain long-term achievements.

Praise for Times Achievers 2026

Commending SBS University and The Times of India for organising the Times Achievers 2026 programme, Tiwari said such initiatives not only recognise meritorious students but also motivate them to dream bigger and strive for excellence.

He observed that honouring young achievers creates a positive environment where students are inspired to pursue higher goals while remaining committed to values and lifelong learning.

Students and Educators Honoured

The ceremony witnessed the felicitation of meritorious students from various schools and educational institutions for their outstanding academic achievements and contributions to the field of education.

The event was attended by a large gathering of educationists, institutional heads, parents and students, making it a celebration of academic excellence, leadership and value-based education.
