Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has called upon all two-wheeler drivers in Madhya Pradesh to wear helmets and fulfill their responsibilities as law-abiding citizens. Emphasizing that helmets are a life-saving shield, Dr. Yadav urged the youth to avoid reckless driving and strictly follow traffic rules. The state government is taking serious measures during Road Safety Week to enhance public awareness and reduce fatalities from road accidents.

Free Helmets Distributed to Over 2000 Youths

As part of the ongoing Road Safety Week, the government organized a special awareness event on Atal Path, where Dr. Yadav inaugurated a free helmet distribution program. During this event, 2,100 helmets were handed out to young riders. The Chief Minister also flagged off a two-wheeler rally and personally assisted riders in wearing helmets, symbolizing the importance of road safety.

Seva Pakhwada and Road Safety Week Go Hand in Hand

Highlighting the importance of service to society, Dr. Yadav mentioned that the state is celebrating “Seva Pakhwada” from September 17 to October 2. Within this framework, the Rahveer Yojana has taken center stage. Under this scheme, any citizen who helps an accident victim reach the hospital will be given an incentive of Rs. 25,000. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting a culture of compassion and civic responsibility.

Traffic Reform: Bhopal’s Intersections to Be Made Safer

Commissioner of Bhopal, Mr. Hari Narayan Chari Mishra, a senior IPS officer from the 2003 batch, provided critical insights into the scale of the problem. According to him, road accidents are the leading cause of unnatural deaths in India, with over 1.8 lakh fatalities reported in 2024 alone. Shockingly, 75 percent of these could have been prevented by responsible driving and wearing helmets. To address this, the administration is redesigning 37 intersections across Bhopal to make them left-turn free, aiming to smooth traffic flow and minimize accidents.

Government’s Developmental Vision for Road Safety

The helmet distribution drive and road safety awareness campaigns are part of a broader developmental strategy by the state government. Dr. Yadav reiterated that the government is constantly working toward the holistic well-being of its citizens, especially the youth. Campaigns on safe travel and stricter enforcement of traffic rules are being rolled out across all districts to reinforce a culture of safety, awareness, and accountability.
