New Delhi: The Vigilance Department of RailTel Corporation of India Limited organised a workshop on “IT & Cyber Security and Cyber Hygiene” on September 8, 2026, at the RailTel Corporate Office.
The workshop was conducted in hybrid mode, enabling officials from RailTel offices across the country to participate through video conferencing. The session focused on emerging cyber threats, practical safety measures and the importance of responsible digital behaviour.
RailTel CVO Urges Employees to Stay Alert Against Cyber Threats
Addressing the participants, Sarika Aggarwal Synrem, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO), RailTel, urged employees to remain alert and vigilant against evolving cybersecurity threats in both professional and personal environments.
She emphasised that even when individuals are aware of basic cybersecurity precautions, a momentary lapse in judgement can expose both individuals and organisations to significant risks.
She also highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of cyber and data systems, noting their direct connection with RailTel’s institutional integrity and the trust placed in the organisation.

Workshop Covers Phishing, QR-Code Scams and Cyber Fraud
The interactive session was conducted by Peeyush Harbola, Deputy Manager, Data Centre, RailTel, and focused on practical aspects of cyber safety.
Key areas covered during the workshop included:
- Phishing attacks
- QR-code-based scams
- Various forms of cyber fraud
- Common online security threats
- Practical cyber safety precautions
- Responsible digital behaviour
- Importance of maintaining good cyber hygiene
The session used day-to-day examples and demonstrations to help participants understand how common cyber threats can affect users and organisations.
Individual Awareness Key to Cyber Security
The workshop highlighted that technology and digital security solutions alone cannot completely protect an organisation from cyber threats.
Participants were reminded that individual awareness and responsible digital behaviour form an important line of defence against cyber attacks.
The session stressed the need to:
- Remain cautious while interacting with digital content.
- Identify potential phishing attempts and online scams.
- Follow basic cybersecurity precautions consistently.
- Make cyber hygiene a daily habit.
- Treat cybersecurity as a shared organisational responsibility.
