Jaipur: India’s highway network has taken another digital leap with the launch of the Rajasthan Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on the Delhi–Jaipur section of NH-48. The new system allows vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping, helping reduce travel time, fuel consumption, and traffic congestion. The initiative has been launched by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) as part of its effort to modernize toll collection across the country.
What Is the Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System
The newly introduced Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) Tolling System is a barrier-free toll collection method.
Instead of stopping at toll booths, vehicles can continue driving while toll charges are collected automatically. This creates a smoother and faster travel experience for commuters.
Where Has Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System Been Launched
The system has been deployed at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on the busy Delhi–Jaipur stretch of National Highway 48 (NH-48) in Rajasthan. This is the first MLFF-based toll plaza in Rajasthan and one of the latest digital highway projects introduced by NHAI.
How Does the MLFF System Work
The technology combines:
- FASTag-based electronic toll collection
- Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras
- Automated user fee collection systems
ANPR cameras read the vehicle’s registration number, while FASTag helps verify and collect the toll amount automatically. This reduces the need for manual checks and toll barriers.
What are the Benefits of This System
The new system offers several advantages:
- No stopping at toll plazas
- Faster vehicle movement
- Reduced waiting time
- Lower fuel consumption
- Less traffic congestion
- Reduced vehicle emissions
- Better travel experience on highways
NHAI says the system supports seamless and efficient movement of traffic on one of North India’s busiest highway corridors.
More Toll Plazas May Soon Adopt MLFF
Following the successful launch at Daulatpura, NHAI plans to transition the Shahjahanpur and Manoharpur toll plazas on the Delhi–Jaipur route to the MLFF system. This move is expected to create a nearly barrier-free travel experience along the entire corridor.
What Should FASTag Users Know
To use the system smoothly, vehicle owners should:
- Maintain sufficient FASTag balance
- Ensure FASTag is valid and working
- Keep vehicle registration details updated
If the FASTag is invalid or lacks sufficient balance, users may receive an electronic notice (E-Notice) for non-payment.
E-Notice Rules
- Users must pay the toll amount within 72 hours of receiving the E-Notice.
- Delayed payment can lead to higher charges.
- Non-payment may result in FASTag blacklisting and restrictions on vehicle-related services through the VAHAN platform.
Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling System: Part of India’s Digital Highway Mission
The launch aligns with the Government of India’s vision of creating smarter, technology-driven transport infrastructure.
NHAI has already introduced MLFF tolling at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza in Gujarat and the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza in Delhi. The Rajasthan rollout is another step toward nationwide digital toll collection.
