Vadodara: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed the Bhoomi Pujan ceremony for a new power transformer manufacturing facility to be set up by Hitachi Energy India Limited in Karjan, located in Vadodara district. The project involves an estimated investment of around ₹2,000 crore and is expected to significantly boost India’s power and renewable energy infrastructure.
The event highlighted Gujarat’s continued emergence as a leading industrial and clean energy hub under the national “Make in India” initiative.
Gujarat Government Highlights Industrial Growth and Investment Climate
Speaking at the ceremony, CM Bhupendra Patel congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on becoming the longest-serving and most successful Prime Minister of India. He stated that under PM Modi’s leadership, India has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, according to a release from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office.
He welcomed Hitachi Energy’s major investment in Karjan, saying the project would:
- Strengthen the Make in India initiative
- Boost energy sector self-reliance
- Generate significant employment opportunities
- Promote skill development in the region
- Create growth opportunities for MSME units
Gujarat Positioned as a Global Investment Destination
The Chief Minister emphasized that Gujarat has become a preferred destination for global investors due to policies initiated under the Vibrant Gujarat Summit framework.
He also referred to the long-standing relationship between Gujarat and Japanese industries, noting that Hitachi and Gujarat share a 60-year association. According to him, this trust reflects the state’s stable and investor-friendly environment.
Patel further highlighted Gujarat’s:

- Strong law and order system
- Established infrastructure ecosystem
- Growing presence of Fortune 500 companies
He described Gujarat as a “second home” for major global enterprises.
Focus on Energy Security and Green Growth Vision
Discussing India’s energy transition, CM Patel said the Prime Minister has positioned Gujarat as an electricity-surplus state. He added that with the upcoming 37 GW renewable hybrid park in Khavda, Kutch, Gujarat is set to become the “Energy Capital of India.”
He also underlined the importance of:
- Green Growth initiatives
- Green Hydrogen development
- Expansion of renewable energy infrastructure
- Strengthening transmission systems for clean energy integration
According to him, Hitachi Energy’s new transformer facility will play a critical role in supporting India’s expanding renewable energy network.

Managing Director and CEO of Hitachi Energy India Limited, N Venu, described the project as a major step in strengthening India’s power infrastructure. He said the upcoming plant will be a “digital-first transformer factory” designed to support large-scale renewable energy integration.

Bruno Melles, Global CEO of Hitachi Energy’s Transformer Business, emphasized the company’s long-term vision for India. He noted that the company has a legacy of more than 75 years in India and remains deeply committed to supporting the country’s clean energy transition.
He stated that the new facility is expected to be operational by 2028 and will function as:
- A manufacturing hub
- An innovation-driven ecosystem
- A center for engineering excellence
- A platform for advanced energy solutions
The plant is expected to strengthen India’s role in global energy manufacturing while supporting sustainable development goals.
CSR Initiative and Dignitaries Present
At the end of the programme, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel handed over a symbolic key of an ambulance donated through Hitachi Energy’s CSR fund to a representative of Jamanabai General Hospital.
