Bharuch: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated Phase 1 of a major Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility set up by Grasim Industries (Aditya Birla Group) in collaboration with Lubrizol Corporation at GIDC Vilayat in Bharuch, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat’s industrial expansion and its “Make in India, Make for the World” vision.
The project is being developed as what is set to become the world’s largest single-site CPVC resin production facility, strengthening India’s self-reliance in advanced polymer manufacturing and boosting exports to neighbouring markets including Nepal, Bangladesh, and Indonesia.
Phase 1 Inaugurated with 50,000 MTPA Capacity
The CPVC resin plant was first announced with groundbreaking in October 2023. Phase 1 of the facility, which was inaugurated on Tuesday, has an installed capacity of approximately 50,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA).
Once fully operational, the total planned capacity of the project will reach 100,000 MTPA, making it one of the most significant global manufacturing hubs for CPVC resin used in piping systems.
Strategic Boost to India’s Manufacturing Ecosystem
The new plant is expected to significantly strengthen India’s domestic supply chain for CPVC resin, which is widely used in:
- Plumbing and piping systems
- Industrial fluid transport
- Residential and commercial construction
By reducing import dependency, the facility supports India’s broader industrial strategy of building globally competitive manufacturing ecosystems.
Advanced Technology Integration for High-Quality Output
The facility will operate using advanced CPVC resin manufacturing technology developed by Lubrizol, combined with Grasim Industries’ large-scale production expertise.
This integration is designed to ensure:
- High-quality CPVC resin production
- Efficient and scalable manufacturing processes
- Reliable supply for both domestic and international markets
Strong Focus on Sustainability and Green Manufacturing
A key highlight of the project is its emphasis on environmentally responsible industrial practices. The plant incorporates:
- Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system
- 70% water reuse efficiency
- Environment-friendly manufacturing processes
These features align with Gujarat’s broader push toward sustainable industrial development and green growth.
Gujarat’s Growing Role as a Global Manufacturing Hub
Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted that the project reflects Gujarat’s position as a policy-driven state and global manufacturing hub.
The initiative also reinforces the state’s alignment with the national vision of “Make in India” and supports the long-term goal of building a Viksit Gujarat contributing to Viksit Bharat @2047.
Strengthening Export Potential and Regional Supply Chains
The CPVC resin produced at the Bharuch facility is expected to cater not only to Indian demand but also to international markets across South Asia and Southeast Asia.
Key export destinations include:
- Nepal
- Bangladesh
- Indonesia
This is expected to improve India’s competitiveness in global polymer and chemical supply chains.
Key Industrial Milestone for Bharuch Region
The Vilayat GIDC industrial cluster in Bharuch continues to emerge as a key hub for chemical and materials manufacturing. The new CPVC plant is expected to:
- Generate high-value industrial output
- Strengthen downstream industries
- Create long-term employment opportunities
- Enhance regional industrial infrastructure
The inauguration of Phase 1 of the CPVC resin plant by Grasim Industries and Lubrizol marks a major step in India’s journey toward advanced materials manufacturing. With world-scale capacity, cutting-edge technology, and strong sustainability features, the project reinforces Gujarat’s position as a leading destination for global industrial investment and innovation.
The facility is expected to play a pivotal role in strengthening India’s self-reliance, boosting exports, and supporting the vision of a globally competitive and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem.
