Focus on EVs and Renewable Energy Growth
A major focus of the new curriculum is on clean energy and electric mobility, with expanded training in Electric Vehicle maintenance and solar energy systems.
Gujarat continues to lead India’s renewable energy sector, accounting for 16.5% of the country’s total renewable energy capacity. As of December 2025, the state had installed more than 42.5 GW of renewable energy capacity, ranking first in India for total installed renewable energy and wind power generation, and second in solar energy capacity.
The electric vehicle segment is also witnessing rapid growth, with 12,729 EV registrations recorded in March 2026, compared to 7,252 in March 2025—reflecting a 75.5% year-on-year increase.
To support practical training, the state has also provided 40 electric vehicles to ITIs for hands-on learning.
Expansion of Vocational Training Infrastructure
The introduction of new courses is part of Gujarat’s broader strategy to strengthen skill development and enhance employability among youth. The initiative also aligns with the national Skill India Mission, which aims to improve vocational education and workforce readiness across India.
Currently, Gujarat operates 560 ITIs with a combined capacity of 218,736 seats. This includes:
- 288 government ITIs with 177,912 seats
- 100 grant-in-aid ITIs with 16,200 seats
- 171 self-financed ITIs with 24,624 seats
At present, ITIs in the state offer 138 vocational courses across multiple sectors.
Supporting India’s Clean Energy and Industrial Growth Goals
India’s renewable energy sector is expanding rapidly, with increasing demand for skilled professionals. The country is targeting 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity along with goals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which is expected to generate over 44.5 lakh full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs.
Gujarat’s updated ITI curriculum is expected to play a key role in meeting this workforce demand by producing trained professionals for future industries.
