Amaravati: The Government of Andhra Pradesh has extended the suspension of 1993 batch senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer P.V. Sunil Kumar, former Director General of the State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department, for a further period of four months.
According to Government Order (G.O.) Rt. No. 800 issued by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand on Monday, Sunil Kumar’s suspension will now continue until August 28, 2025. The extension is made under Rule 3(8)(a) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
The senior officer is under scrutiny for alleged misconduct and misbehaviour. Disciplinary proceedings are being initiated against him in connection with multiple unauthorized foreign trips and deviations from officially approved travel plans.
Sunil Kumar was initially suspended through G.O. Rt. No. 440 on March 2, 2025, under Rule 3(1) of the AIS (D&A) Rules, 1969. The suspension was triggered by allegations that he undertook several international visits without prior government approval.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has also confirmed the suspension in communication to the State Government, bolstering the legal framework for ongoing disciplinary measures.
Earlier, the State Government had formed a Review Committee to assess the suspension case, as per G.O. Rt. No. 1952 dated November 12, 2024. In a meeting held on April 21, 2025, the committee recommended extending the suspension by an additional 120 days, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the need for further investigation.
Following this recommendation, the State Government has initiated appropriate actions to continue the disciplinary process against Sunil Kumar.
