In a deeply tragic incident, senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar (2001 batch) ended his life by shooting himself in the basement of his residence in Chandigarh. The 53-year-old officer left behind a nine-page suicide note and a meticulously prepared will, both sent to his wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar (2001 batch), before the incident.

Nine-Page Note Alleges Abuse, Ends with a Will

Sources reveal that the suicide note, sent to his wife via digital means, spans nine pages. The first eight pages allegedly detail emotional and possibly mental abuse that IPS Kumar claims to have endured. The final page transitions into a legal testament in which he bequeaths all his movable and immovable properties to his wife, IAS Amneet Kumar.

Desperate Attempts to Reach Him Failed

At the time of the incident, IAS Amneet was in Japan on an official government tour with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini. After receiving the suicide note and will on October 6, Amneet tried to contact her husband immediately, calling him 15 times in succession. Tragically, none of the calls were answered.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Amneet instructed their younger daughter, Amulya, to urgently check on her father. Amulya, who was at a nearby market, rushed home and found her father in the basement – lying motionless on the couch, bleeding from a head wound. Authorities later confirmed that he had died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Ongoing Investigation and Public Reaction

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, including the contents of the suicide note. Though the exact nature of the abuse mentioned has not yet been disclosed publicly, sources suggest the document could potentially prompt both personal and professional inquiries.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the administrative and police community in Haryana, with colleagues expressing disbelief over the sudden loss of a respected officer.

A Career Cut Short

Y. Puran Kumar had served in various key positions during his career as an IPS officer in Haryana. Known for his quiet demeanor and administrative capabilities, Kumar’s suicide has left both bureaucratic and police circles stunned.
