Ranchi: In a major initiative aimed at improving representation of tribal communities in the civil services, the Jharkhand government has launched a free non-residential coaching programme for candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations.
The coaching programme will be conducted by the Dr. Ram Dayal Munda Tribal Welfare Research Institute (TRI), which functions under the state’s Welfare Department. Eligible candidates can download the application form from the institute’s official website and submit their applications by 5:00 PM on July 16, 2026.
Objective: Improve Tribal Representation in Civil Services
The initiative has been launched to provide quality guidance and mentorship to tribal aspirants preparing for India’s most competitive examinations.
According to the institute, selected candidates will receive coaching from experienced faculty members associated with reputed civil services coaching institutions across the country, helping them compete effectively in UPSC and JPSC examinations.
The programme is expected to strengthen opportunities for deserving tribal students who often face financial and educational constraints while preparing for competitive examinations.

Who Can Apply?
Applications have been invited from candidates belonging to:
- Scheduled Tribes (ST)
- Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs)
The coaching programme will be offered on a non-residential basis.
Selection Process
The Tribal Research Institute has laid down multiple parameters for selecting candidates.
Selection will be based on:
- Academic performance in Class 10
- Marks obtained in Class 12
- Graduation performance
- Previous experience of appearing in civil services examinations
- Economic background of the applicant
The institute has stated that economically weaker students will receive priority during the selection process.
Application Deadline
Interested candidates must submit their completed application forms by 5:00 PM on July 16, 2026. The application form can be downloaded from the official website of the Tribal Research Institute.
Jharkhand State Open University Holds Skill Development Workshop
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand State Open University concluded a two-day workshop focused on enhancing employability, skill development, and career readiness among students.
On the concluding day, experts discussed emerging employment opportunities, future workforce requirements, and strategies for improving professional competencies.
The university also announced that five new courses and skill development programmes will be introduced in the upcoming academic session.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abhay Kumar Singh said similar programmes would continue in the future to strengthen youth employability and promote self-reliance.
Certificates were distributed to participating teachers and coordinators by Registrar Dr. Jitendra Kumar Singh and Dr. Rajesh Khambayat. The event was also attended by Controller of Examinations Dr. Dilip Sahu, along with faculty members and officials including Khemlal and Shahid.
