Jammu: In a significant move to strengthen the Union Territory’s cyber security architecture, the Jammu and Kashmir government has transferred five senior police officers to the newly established JK Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (JK4C). The Home Department issued the transfer orders with immediate effect as part of efforts to build a specialised and dedicated mechanism to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime.
The reshuffle comes at a time when Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a rise in cyber frauds, online financial scams, identity theft and digital crimes targeting women and children. The government has positioned experienced officers to lead different wings of the new cyber coordination centre.
Five Officers Given Key Responsibilities
As per the government order, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood, IPS, who was holding charge as In-charge Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JK4C.
Sameer Sharma, IPS, earlier serving as DIG Armed Jammu, has been transferred and posted as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), JK Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.
Mohammad Yaseen Kichloo, IPS, who was Principal of the Police Training School, Talwara, has been appointed as SSP, Administrative Wing, JK4C, while also holding the additional charge of SSP, Cyber Operations Wing.
Ramnish Gupta, previously serving as SSP CICE Jammu, has been posted as SSP, Cyber Investigation Wing.
In a separate posting, Shwetambri Sharma, SP, who was awaiting orders of posting, has been appointed as SP, Online Crime Against Women and Children Wing.
Specialised Cyber Crime Framework
The creation of JK4C marks a major institutional step towards establishing a dedicated cyber policing framework in Jammu and Kashmir. The centre is expected to coordinate cyber intelligence, investigations, digital forensics, cyber operations and inter-agency cooperation while responding to increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.
Officials believe that specialised wings focusing on cyber investigations, online financial frauds and crimes against women and children will significantly improve the Union Territory’s capacity to tackle digital offences.
Immediate Effect
The Home Department has directed that all transferred officers stand relieved from their previous assignments with immediate effect. Their salaries will be drawn against the overall reserve until further orders.
The latest reshuffle reflects the government’s emphasis on strengthening cyber policing capabilities as digital transactions, online services and internet usage continue to expand across the Union Territory.
