New Delhi: Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has launched a series of cleanliness and environmental protection initiatives under Special Campaign 6.0, focusing on responsible e-waste management, systematic waste collection and improved cleanliness across its headquarters and operational areas. The campaign will continue until October 31, with activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable waste disposal practices.

As part of the initiative, MCL has established e-waste collection kiosks across its operational areas to facilitate the collection and responsible disposal of discarded electronic items through authorised recycling channels. Employees at the headquarters and operational locations are actively participating in the campaign, supporting cleanliness drives and encouraging environmentally responsible practices.

MCL Special Campaign 6.0: Key Progress and Targets

During the first week of the campaign’s implementation phase, MCL reported progress in cleaning identified sites and disposing of scrap materials.

The key achievements and targets include:

  • Sites cleaned: 73 out of 240 identified sites.
  • Area cleaned: 3,06,663 square feet against a target of 10,00,000 square feet.
  • Scrap disposal target: 600 metric tonnes.
  • HEMM battery disposal: 350 batteries disposed of, generating revenue through scrap disposal.

These activities form part of MCL’s broader efforts to improve workplace cleanliness, manage waste systematically and promote resource efficiency across its establishments.

E-Waste Collection and Responsible Recycling

A major focus of Special Campaign 6.0 is the responsible management of electronic waste. MCL has set up e-waste collection kiosks across its areas to make it easier for employees to deposit discarded electronic items.

The collected e-waste is intended to be channelled through authorised recycling systems, helping ensure that electronic materials are handled and disposed of responsibly.

The initiative also encourages employees to adopt better waste management practices and supports efforts to reduce the environmental impact of discarded electronic equipment.

Awareness Drives to Promote Environmental Protection

Alongside waste collection and cleanliness activities, MCL is conducting awareness programmes for employees and nearby communities to highlight the harmful effects of improper e-waste disposal.

The awareness initiatives focus on key environmental and public health concerns, including:

  • Soil and water contamination caused by improperly discarded electronic waste.
  • Potential risks to human health and the environment.
  • The importance of responsible electronic waste collection and disposal.
  • The role of authorised recycling channels in managing discarded electronic items.

Through these activities, MCL aims to encourage greater environmental awareness and participation in sustainable waste management practices among its workforce and surrounding communities.

Campaign to Continue Until October 31

Special Campaign 6.0 will continue across MCL’s headquarters and operational areas until October 31. The drive combines site cleaning, scrap disposal, e-waste collection and awareness activities to strengthen cleanliness standards and environmental responsibility.

The campaign also supports the broader objective of creating cleaner workplaces while encouraging the responsible use and disposal of resources. MCL’s ongoing efforts are intended to contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable and resource-efficient future.
