MHA Directs Submission of Medical Records
The MHA order, addressed to the Chief Secretaries of Ladakh, Puducherry and Mizoram, instructed the officers to appear before the AIIMS medical board on the scheduled date with:
- Original and photocopies of relevant medical records.
- Health certificates.
- Valid photo identity proof.
The order stated that the medical board would undertake an independent evaluation of the officers’ health conditions.
Nine-Member AIIMS Medical Board Constituted
The Ministry has constituted a nine-member medical board at AIIMS to examine the health status of the three officers.
The board will independently assess their medical condition based on clinical evaluation and the documents submitted by them before furnishing its opinion.
Background of the Officers
Among the three officers, Shankar Chaudhary had recently figured in an FIR registered by the Delhi Police Vigilance Unit in connection with an alleged unauthorised raid conducted in Delhi in November 2023 while he was serving as Superintendent of Police of Mizoram’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force.
According to a preliminary inquiry conducted by a Joint Commissioner of Police-rank officer, Chaudhary allegedly acted beyond his legal and territorial jurisdiction and conducted raids and seizures in the national capital without the required authorisation.
Earlier, in June 2022, he was transferred out of Delhi’s Dwarka district after allegations that he injured a woman during an altercation at a bar in South Delhi.
Meanwhile, Bijendra Kumar Yadav had also faced controversy in November 2024 after he was accused of allegedly assaulting and abusing doctors on duty at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital while his wife, also an IPS officer, was undergoing treatment. The incident drew criticism from doctors’ associations.
There has been no official indication that these previous incidents are connected to the present medical evaluation.
No Official Response Yet
According to reports, Shankar Chaudhary declined to comment on the development, while responses from Gaurav Sharma and Bijendra Kumar Yadav were awaited at the time of reporting.
The MHA’s action is limited to an independent medical assessment of the officers’ health status following their prolonged leave on medical grounds.
