New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will convene a high-level meeting with Directors General of Police (DGPs) from all States and Union Territories on July 9, 2026, to deliberate on issues related to demographic changes, illegal infiltration and measures to strengthen detection and deportation mechanisms.
Senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs will also participate in the meeting, which is aimed at enhancing coordination between the Centre and the States on issues concerning internal security and population-related challenges.
Focus on Demographic Changes and Illegal Population Growth
According to official sources, the meeting will examine regions where significant demographic changes have taken place and assess the factors contributing to what has been described as inorganic and illegal population growth.
The discussions are expected to focus on identifying vulnerable regions, understanding emerging demographic trends and strengthening mechanisms to monitor unlawful population expansion linked to illegal infiltration.
Detection and Deportation Mechanisms Under Review
The meeting will also deliberate on improving systems for detecting illegal infiltrators and reinforcing the legal and administrative framework for their identification and deportation.
The Centre is expected to seek inputs from State Police chiefs on existing challenges, intelligence gathering, inter-agency coordination and best practices adopted by various states in tackling illegal infiltration.
Centre Plans Scientific Study on Demographic Trends
As part of its broader strategy, the Central Government is also planning to undertake a scientific, data-driven study of demographic changes across the country.
Officials have prepared a detailed questionnaire to facilitate the study, which will examine population growth patterns and changes in demographic composition across districts and regions.
The proposed exercise is expected to rely on empirical data to analyse demographic trends and assist policymakers in formulating appropriate administrative and security responses.
Centre-State Coordination to be Strengthened
The July 9 meeting is expected to strengthen coordination between the Union Government and State Governments in addressing illegal infiltration and demographic challenges through improved information sharing, coordinated enforcement and evidence-based policymaking.
The deliberations are likely to lay the groundwork for a more structured national framework to monitor demographic changes and enhance border and internal security mechanisms.
