Bhopal: The Union Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for the marketing season 2026-27. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav welcomed the decision, emphasizing that it will strengthen the agricultural sector and directly enhance farmers’ income.
MSP Hike to Strengthen Farmer Income
In a cabinet committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi, the MSP for several Kharif crops was revised upwards, marking a significant step toward improving profitability for farmers. Chief Minister Dr. Yadav highlighted that this move will benefit farmers across Madhya Pradesh and the country by ensuring better prices for their produce.
He added that the government’s continuous support for the agriculture sector through policy measures and price assurances will provide new energy to farming activities and enhance the financial stability of farmers.

Madhya Pradesh Celebrates 2026 as Farmer Welfare Year
Dr. Yadav shared that 2026 is being celebrated as the ‘Farmer Welfare Year’ in Madhya Pradesh. Various initiatives are being implemented, including:
- Monthly exhibitions of modern agricultural equipment
- Effective implementation of farmer-friendly schemes
- Training programs to educate farmers on advanced farming techniques
These initiatives aim to encourage farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices, boost productivity, and improve income levels.
Major Benefits for Ragi, Maize, Jowar, and Bajra Farmers
Madhya Pradesh is one of India’s leading states in food grain production. The MSP hike is expected to particularly benefit farmers cultivating Ragi, Maize, Jowar, and Bajra, promoting the cultivation of coarse cereals and ensuring better returns on their produce. This step will also strengthen the state’s overall agricultural sector.
Significant MSP Increases for Kharif Crops
The government has announced substantial increases in MSP for several crops for the 2026-27 marketing season, including:
- Sunflower seeds: ₹622 per quintal increase
- Cotton: ₹557 per quintal increase
- Niger seeds: ₹515 per quintal increase
- Sesame (Til): ₹500 per quintal increase
Farmers to Gain Better Profit Margins Over Costs
The MSP revisions are expected to provide higher profitability over production costs for various crops:
- Moong: 61% expected profit over cost
- Bajra and Maize: 56%
- Arhar (Pigeon Pea): 54%
- Urad (Black Gram): 51%
- Ragi, Hybrid Jowar, and Paddy: up to 50%
- Oilseeds (Peanut, Sunflower, Soybean, Til, Niger) and Medium Staple Cotton: around 50%
This adjustment is designed to ensure farmers receive fair returns, encouraging cultivation and enhancing economic stability in rural areas.
