Bhopal/New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav on Monday issued a strong message in support of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, calling it a transformative step towards women’s empowerment and accusing opposition parties of obstructing a historic reform.
Addressing the people of the state, the Chief Minister said the issue is intrinsically linked to “Nari Shakti” – representing half of India’s population – and stressed that empowering women is central to nation-building.
“Vision of PM Modi Obstructed by Opposition”
Mohan Yadav praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for envisioning greater political representation for women through the legislation.
He alleged that certain opposition parties, driven by vested interests, failed to support the initiative, thereby obstructing a significant step toward empowering women.
“The decision to grant 33 percent reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies was not merely political, but a sincere effort to provide dignity and representation to our sisters,” he said.

Push for 33% Reservation in Legislatures
The Chief Minister highlighted that the proposed law aimed to ensure proportional representation for women in both Parliament and state assemblies, giving long-awaited opportunities for leadership roles.
He noted that women across India have aspired to participate actively in governance, and such a measure would have accelerated their inclusion in decision-making processes.
Cultural and Historical Significance of Women Empowerment
Emphasising India’s cultural ethos, Mohan Yadav said that the country has always revered women and recognised the importance of Stree Shakti.
He pointed to historical examples where women played a pivotal role in shaping the nation and reiterated that empowering women is essential for building a “Golden India.”
Criticism of Opposition Parties
Launching a sharp attack, the Chief Minister accused parties such as the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), DMK, and Samajwadi Party of failing to support the legislation.
He argued that their opposition deprived women leaders—even within their own parties—of the opportunity to become Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs).
According to him, this stance reflects a broader pattern of opposing key reforms related to national interest and women’s welfare.
Broader Political Context and Reform Agenda
CM Yadav also cited several other policy issues to underline his criticism of the Congress party, including its positions on triple talaq, the abrogation of Article 370, the Uniform Civil Code, and the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal.
He further mentioned concerns regarding opposition to electoral roll purification processes and institutional reforms such as those related to the Waqf Board.
Women’s Role in Nation Building Highlighted
The Chief Minister lauded the growing contribution of women across sectors, including agriculture, science, and technology.
He highlighted the success of women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs), noting that many have achieved outcomes once considered impossible, aided by innovation and modern technology.
Call for Accountability and Public Response
CM Yadav asserted that women across the country would demand accountability from parties that opposed the legislation.
He said the opposition must clarify its concerns regarding delimitation and explain why it lacks confidence in women’s leadership.
Special Assembly Session and Statewide Action
The Chief Minister announced that a special session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly will be convened to deliberate on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.
He added that a motion condemning the opposition’s stance would be passed, and similar resolutions would be introduced in local self-government bodies across the state.
He also referred to the Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra held in Bhopal, stating that widespread public anger against the opposition is visible across the state and the country.
Strong Closing Message on Women’s Empowerment
Concluding his address, Mohan Yadav said that the opposition’s lack of cooperation on a campaign aimed at empowering women has triggered widespread outrage among mothers, sisters, and daughters across the nation.
He asserted that those who opposed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam would eventually face public backlash for undermining the dignity and aspirations of women.
