Sriharikota: Skyroot Aerospace Vikram-1 has reached a major milestone after completing the Stage-1 assembly of its first orbital launch vehicle at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota. This achievement moves India closer to witnessing its first privately built orbital rocket launch. The company has now entered the final phase of launch preparations before the much-awaited maiden mission.
Vikram-1 Rocket: Skyroot Reaches a Major Milestone
Skyroot Aerospace announced that the first stage of the Vikram-1 rocket has been fully assembled at Sriharikota. This stage is the rocket’s largest and most powerful section.
It provides the initial thrust needed to lift the vehicle off the launch pad and carry it through the lower atmosphere. With Stage-1 completed, engineers have moved into the final phase of integrating the remaining rocket systems before launch.
What Is Vikram-1
Vikram-1 is a four-stage, small satellite launch vehicle developed by Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace. The rocket is designed to carry up to 350 kg of payload into Low Earth Orbit (LEO), making it suitable for launching small commercial and scientific satellites.
The vehicle uses lightweight carbon composite structures, advanced propulsion technology, and modular design to reduce launch costs and improve efficiency.
Vikram-1 Rocket: Advanced Technologies Used
Skyroot has already integrated important systems into the rocket, including:
- Kalam-250 solid rocket motor
- Flight control systems
- Flex nozzle technology
- Actuators
- Inter-stage structures
The upper stages also use precision guidance and orbital insertion systems to place satellites accurately into their planned orbit.
Why Vikram-1 Rocket Is Important
If successful, Vikram-1 will become India’s first privately developed orbital rocket to launch from Sriharikota. The mission represents another major step in India’s space sector reforms, which encourage private companies to work alongside ISRO in developing launch vehicles and space technologies.
A Boost for India’s Private Space Industry
Skyroot Aerospace already created history in November 2022 by launching Vikram-S, India’s first privately developed suborbital rocket. The upcoming Vikram-1 mission aims to take that success further by placing satellites into orbit, opening new opportunities for India’s growing commercial space industry.
