The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of deputation tenure for two senior Karnataka cadre IPS officers — Sonia Narang and Abhishek Goyal — in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
The extensions have been granted in relaxation of the IPS Tenure Policy following a proposal by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
SONIA NARANG’S TENURE EXTENDED
Sonia Narang, a 2002-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre, has been granted a one-year extension beyond April 6, 2026.
Known for her tough anti-corruption stance during her tenure in Karnataka, Narang had once made headlines after facing allegations linked to a high-value scam during the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah. She publicly denied the accusations and maintained that her conscience was clear, earning praise for her fearless approach.
Over the years, she built a reputation as a strict and upright officer, with many referring to her as “Lady Singham.” She is currently serving as Inspector General in CISF and has also served in key central assignments, including in the Enforcement Directorate.
Narang joined the IPS in 2002 and holds degrees in B.A. (Hons) and M.A.
ABHISHEK GOYAL ALSO RETAINED
Abhishek Goyal, a 2005-batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer, has similarly received a one-year extension beyond March 18, 2026.
An IIT Delhi graduate with a B.Tech in Computer Science, Goyal is known for his strong administrative and operational background. He currently serves as Inspector General in CISF at Pay Level 14.
Originally from Punjab, he joined the IPS in December 2005 and also holds an MPM degree.
The extensions indicate the Centre’s continued confidence in both officers’ leadership and operational capabilities in CISF.
