The Tamil Nadu government has ordered the transfer and posting of two senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, making changes at the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) level.
As per an official order issued on Monday (July 13), former Chennai Police Commissioner A. Arun, IPS, has been appointed as the Additional Director General of Police and Director of the Tamil Nadu Police Academy at Oonamanchery, Chennai. The posting fills an existing vacancy at the state police training institution.
At the same time, C. Mageshwari, IPS, currently serving as Inspector General of Police in the Special Investigation Cell-I of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), has been entrusted with the full additional charge of ADGP and Director, Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
A. Arun Takes Charge of Tamil Nadu Police Academy
A. Arun, who was serving as ADGP and Director of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, will now head the Tamil Nadu Police Academy, the state’s premier institution responsible for training police personnel and officers.
The appointment comes against an existing vacancy and marks another important assignment in Arun’s career after his tenure as Chennai Police Commissioner.
C. Mageshwari Assigned Additional Responsibility at DVAC
Following Arun’s transfer, the government has placed C. Mageshwari in charge of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on an additional basis.
She will continue to hold her current responsibilities as Inspector General of Police in the Special Investigation Cell-I while overseeing the functioning of the state’s anti-corruption agency until further orders.
IAS Reshuffle Earlier Brought Changes Across Key Departments
The IPS transfers come weeks after the Tamil Nadu government carried out a major reshuffle of senior IAS officers in May, affecting several important departments.
Among the prominent changes, N. Muruganandam returned from leave and was posted as Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management, replacing P. Amudha, who had been holding additional charge.
Another significant change saw M. A. Siddique, then Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, appointed as Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, succeeding T. Udhayachandran.
The government also appointed S. Swarna as Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department, replacing K. Manivasan, who had been managing the department as an additional responsibility.
In another key posting, K. Nanthakumar was named Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC). He took over from T. Christuraj after serving as the Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
The latest IPS transfers continue the state’s administrative restructuring, with changes being made across both the police and civil administration to fill key positions and streamline governance.
