South Chhattisgarh: Railway connectivity has reached the remote Rowghat area of Chhattisgarh with the completion of the final Taroki-Rowghat section of the Dallirajhara-Rowghat New Rail Line Project.
The 17.5-km section, which forms part of the 95-km Dallirajhara-Rowghat project, is a single-line electrified broad-gauge railway section under the Raipur Division of South East Central Railway.
A Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection and speed trial were conducted on September 22 as part of the process preceding commissioning of the section. Railway officials examined the track, bridges and culverts, electrification, signalling and other technical and safety arrangements during the inspection.
Passenger Train Services Expected to Follow
Passenger services currently operate between Dallirajhara and Taroki. With the completion of the Taroki-Rowghat section and the required safety and operational processes, train operations on the new stretch are expected to begin after commissioning.

The extension is expected to improve rail access for people living in remote areas of southern Chhattisgarh and strengthen their links with larger centres such as Raipur and Bhilai.
Rail Link to Support Bhilai Steel Plant
The Dallirajhara-Rowghat railway project has both passenger-connectivity and industrial significance. The railway line is intended to facilitate the movement of iron ore to the Bhilai Steel Plant, supporting the steel industry’s logistics requirements.
The line is also expected to improve the movement of agricultural produce and other local commercial goods, connecting rural and remote areas with the wider railway network.
The project forms part of the broader Dallirajhara-Rowghat-Jagdalpur rail link planned for Chhattisgarh. The larger project was conceived to connect the mineral-rich Rowghat area with the state’s existing railway network and support the movement of iron ore to Bhilai.
Connectivity to Raipur and Bhilai
The completion of the Taroki-Rowghat section is expected to strengthen connectivity between remote areas of south Chhattisgarh and major urban centres.
According to the Ministry of Railways, improved rail connectivity is expected to make access to education, healthcare, employment and trade easier for residents of the region. The network is also expected to support tourism, investment and other economic activity.
Final Section of 95-Km Project Completed
The Taroki-Rowghat stretch is the final section of the 95-km Dallirajhara-Rowghat New Rail Line Project. Its completion marks a significant step in extending the railway network further into south Chhattisgarh.
The broader Dallirajhara-Rowghat-Jagdalpur project envisages a 235-km rail link, with the Dallirajhara-Rowghat portion forming its first phase. The Rowghat-Jagdalpur section is planned as the subsequent phase.
With the latest inspection and speed trial completed, the railway authorities have moved closer to commissioning the Taroki-Rowghat section and extending train connectivity to Rowghat.
