Three Senior UP DGs to Retire in February; DGP Rajiv Krishna Among Top Officers, 1994-Batch Promotions Expected

UP Police Hierarchy to Change with February and April Retirements of Senior DGs. Three DG Vacancies to Be Filled
Indian Masterminds Stories

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police is set for a major administrative reshuffle this month, as three senior IPS officers holding the rank of Director General (DG) are scheduled to retire. The retirements will create vacancies in key DG-level positions and reshuffle the seniority hierarchy in the UP cadre.

Following the retirements, current acting DGP Rajiv Krishna (IPS:1991:UP) is set to enter the top three senior-most officers currently serving in the state, while 1990-batch officer Renuka Mishra will formally become the senior-most officer of the cadre.

DG-Level Officers Retiring in February

The officers set to retire this month include:

  • Sandeep Salunke (IPS:1990:UP) – DG Human Rights, the most senior officer in the UP cadre
  • Manmohan Kumar Bashal (IPS:1990:UP) – DG Home Guard, ranked third in the seniority list
  • Deepesh Juneja (IPS:1992:UP) – DG Prosecution

These retirements will leave three DG posts vacant, paving the way for promotions among the next tier of senior officers.

Seniority Changes Post-Retirement

After the February retirements:

Renuka Mishra (IPS:1990:UP) will become the senior-most officer in the UP cadre. However, she has not been posted in any department for the past 18 months and is currently attached to the police headquarters.

Two 1991-batch officers, Alok Sharma and Piyush Anand, will become the second and third senior-most officers from March 1. Both, however, are currently on central deputation.

Based on officers actively serving in the UP cadre, DGP Rajiv Krishna (IPS:1991:UP) will occupy the second place in seniority, making him one of the top three active officers in the state.

Upcoming Promotions to DG Rank

With the three DG-level vacancies in February, the following 1994-batch officers will be promoted to the rank of DG from March 1:

  • Prakash D (IPS:1994:UP)
  • LV Antony Dev Kumar (IPS:1994:UP)
  • Jai Narayan Singh (IPS:1994:UP)

These promotions will complete the process of filling DG-level posts in police headquarters and various departments across the state.

April Retirements and Further Changes

April will also see key changes in the UP police department:

DG EOW Neera Rawat (IPS:1992:UP) will retire on April 30, 2026. She currently holds additional charge of 112 UP along with heading the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW).

If no senior DG-level officer returns from central deputation during this period, Alok Singh (IPS:1995:UP), currently ADG of Kanpur zone, is likely to be promoted to DG rank.

These developments indicate a period of major administrative reshuffling in the UP police hierarchy, with opportunities for the next generation of IPS officers to assume senior leadership roles.
