Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has called upon India’s leading corporate houses and industry leaders to actively participate in the state’s development through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Addressing the Uttarakhand CSR Dialogue, the Chief Minister said CSR should be viewed not merely as a financial obligation but as a shared responsibility towards society.
He emphasized that the state government aims to make Uttarakhand one of India’s leading states by 2035, and partnerships between the government, industries, and society will play a crucial role in achieving this vision.
CM Dhami Calls for Greater Corporate Participation in Uttarakhand’s Development
Speaking at the CSR Dialogue, Chief Minister Dhami highlighted that Uttarakhand’s unique geographical conditions and social needs present significant opportunities for impactful CSR interventions.
He urged corporate organizations to collaborate with the state government in implementing development projects that can improve the lives of people, particularly those living in remote and mountainous regions.
According to the Chief Minister, development should be a shared responsibility where governments, industries, and communities work together to ensure that the benefits reach every section of society.
Focus on Education, Digital Learning and Skill Development
The Chief Minister stressed that preparing Uttarakhand’s youth for future opportunities is one of the state’s top priorities.
He appealed to industries to contribute through CSR by supporting initiatives such as:
- Digital infrastructure in government schools
- Smart classrooms and digital learning
- Skill development and vocational training centres
- Startup incubation and entrepreneurship programmes
- Employment-oriented training initiatives
Dhami noted that the state has already introduced the National Education Policy (NEP), startup-friendly policies, and entrepreneurship initiatives. Additional CSR support, he said, would help create better employment opportunities for young people within the state.
Improving Healthcare in Remote Areas
Recognizing the healthcare challenges faced by Uttarakhand’s hilly regions, the Chief Minister encouraged corporate groups to support long-term healthcare projects through CSR funding.
He suggested investments in:
- Mobile health units
- Telemedicine services
- Medical equipment
- Ambulance services
- Maternal and child healthcare
- Nutrition programmes
He said such initiatives would significantly improve healthcare accessibility for residents living in remote villages.
CSR Should Support Environmental Conservation
Highlighting Uttarakhand’s rich natural heritage, Dhami said environmental conservation should be a key focus area for CSR investments.
He encouraged companies to support projects related to:
- Water conservation
- Afforestation
- Biodiversity protection
- River rejuvenation
- Waste management
- Climate change mitigation
According to the Chief Minister, corporate participation in environmental initiatives would not only protect Uttarakhand’s ecological wealth but also benefit future generations.
Boosting Women Empowerment and Rural Economy
The Chief Minister also emphasized the need for greater CSR investment in women’s empowerment and rural livelihoods.
He urged companies to support:
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs)
- Women entrepreneurship programmes
- Marketing of local products
- Financial literacy initiatives
- Skill development and technical assistance
- Rural livelihood projects
He said stronger corporate participation would complement the state’s existing welfare schemes and accelerate economic empowerment of women across Uttarakhand.
Government-Industry Partnership Key to Vision 2035
Dhami said the Uttarakhand government has introduced several investor-friendly policies covering:
- Industry
- Tourism
- Logistics
- Startups
- MSMEs
While these policies have strengthened the investment climate, he said industries should extend their contribution beyond business investments by actively supporting social development through CSR.
He added that partnerships between the government and the corporate sector can create sustainable development models in education, healthcare, tourism, employment, and environmental conservation.
CM Calls for Outcome-Based CSR Projects
The Chief Minister emphasized that CSR success should not be measured solely by the amount of money spent but by the social impact generated.
He urged corporate organizations to prioritize:
- Long-term development projects
- Sustainable initiatives
- Measurable social outcomes
- Permanent improvements in rural and hilly regions
Dhami assured that the state government would provide full support to CSR initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the people of Uttarakhand.
Why CSR Is Important for Uttarakhand
Experts believe that CSR plays a particularly important role in a mountainous state like Uttarakhand, where geographical challenges often limit access to resources and public services.
Corporate participation can significantly accelerate development in areas such as:
- Education
- Healthcare
- Digital connectivity
- Environmental conservation
- Drinking water
- Road safety
- Rural livelihoods
- Community development
Over the past few years, several private companies have contributed to projects involving school digitization, healthcare, environmental protection, clean drinking water, and community welfare. The Uttarakhand government is now seeking to expand these partnerships to achieve inclusive and sustainable development across the state.
