Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a premier defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has announced the appointment of Ms. Veni Thapar as a Part-time Non-Official (Independent) Director on its board. Her appointment, approved by the Ministry of Defence, is effective from April 21, 2025, for a period of one year or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The announcement was made through a regulatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Tuesday.
Ms. Thapar brings over a decade of diverse professional experience and a strong academic and technical background to MDL. She is a Chartered Accountant and Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). She is also a Cost Accountant from the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMA) and a Certified Information Systems Auditor from ISACA, USA. Her qualifications further include certifications in International Taxation, Information Systems Audit, IT and Cyber Security for Board Members (IDRBT), and the Directors Development Program from Harvard Business Publishing and Egon Zehnder.
Currently, Ms. Thapar serves as a Senior Partner in a reputed Chartered Accountancy firm, and she possesses extensive experience in statutory and internal audits, bank audits, government audits, and information systems audits, in addition to consultancy in company law, indirect taxation, FEMA, and RBI compliance. She also has board-level experience with both listed and unlisted companies across multiple sectors.
MDL confirmed that Ms. Thapar is not disqualified under Section 164 of the Companies Act, 2013, and is not debarred by any statutory authority from holding the office of director. Additionally, she has no relationship with any existing board members of the company.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd., headquartered in Mumbai, is a key player in India’s defence manufacturing landscape, specializing in the construction of warships and submarines for the Indian Navy and offshore platforms and vessels for the oil and gas sector.
